Back to Paris part 13 : lightpainting using daylight (Lightpainting on Hive)

avatar

Hi everyone,

As my pseudonym suggests, I am constantly searching for balance between light and darkness. Performing lightpainting using daylight has always been one of my goals in my global approach.

When I visited this quarry with my man @flav_explore in January, we came across this huge fontis roughly clogged on the surface. It was the middle of the day and the infiltration of outside light was almost perfect: not too weak so that the photographic exposure time was not too long and not too strong to give me time to work.

After becoming familiar with these rather unusual conditions, I began performing abstract calligraphic works. This shot is one of the most accomplished in this serie.

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

Wow. Really curious how the shape of the lights is created. Is there some sort of electric engine rotation going on?

I do everything by hand. For that specific picture, I used :

  • a RGB LED stripe
  • a flashlight with a green plastic cone
  • a small green LED

I'm about to buy a second camera, so that I'll be able to record my session in real-time video lightpainting too 😎
