We have many interesting objects at home, and one of them is a clay pot. I placed it on the floor very carefully, since it’s very old and antique. Its rounded shape, small openings, and every detail reveal the patient work of someone who shaped wet clay until it came to life and took on that form. When placed in the light, the piece takes on a quiet, humble presence, yet one full of character. However, what is most interesting is not just the pot itself, but the shadow it casts.

The light strikes the object, passes through the clay, and pauses at its curves, creating a dark silhouette that stretches across the floor and appears double. The shadow is not merely a copy of the figure; it seems to have a personality of its own. While the original vessel remains motionless, the shadow projects to one side as if trying to escape.

En casa tenemos muchos objetos interesantes y uno de ellos es una vasija de barro, la coloqué sobre el suelo con mucho cuidado, ya que tiene muchos años y es antigua. Su forma redondeada, sus pequeñas aberturas y cada detalle revelan el trabajo paciente de una persona que utilizo barro húmedo hasta darle vida y lograr esa forma. Al colocarla bajo la luz, la pieza adquiere una presencia silenciosa, humilde, pero llena de carácter. Sin embargo, lo más interesante no está solamente en la vasija, sino en la sombra que se crea.

La luz golpea sobre el objeto y atraviesa el barro y se detiene en sus curvas, creando una silueta oscura que se estira sobre el suelo y parece doble. La sombra no es solo una copia de la figura; parece tener su propia personalidad. Mientras la vasija original permanece inmóvil, la sombra se proyecta hacia un lado como si intentara escapar.

The small, irregular shapes of the clay cast dark shadows on the floor. On either side, the vessel has two openings that project elongated figures, which also blend with the main shadow, creating a unique and mysterious image. Even the small arch that serves as a handle leaves a dark mark that breaks the continuity of the silhouette, as if it were an open door to another space.

Perhaps that is why the shadow is so striking: while the vessel tells a story of clay, the shadow tells a different one. A more abstract story, where shapes stretch and warp. In the end, the object remains still on the ground, but its shadow lingers, reminding us that even the simplest things can create unexpected images when light chooses to reveal them.

Las pequeñas formas irregulares del barro se transforman en sombras oscuras en el suelo. A los lados la vasija cuenta con dos bocas que proyectan figuras alargadas y también se mezclan con la sombra principal, generando una imagen única y misteriosa. Incluso el pequeño arco que sirve de asa deja una marca oscura que rompe la continuidad de la silueta, como si fuera una puerta abierta hacia otro espacio.

Quizás por eso la sombra sea llamativa, porque mientras la vasija cuenta una historia de barro, la sombra cuenta otra distinta. Una historia más abstracta, donde las formas se alargan y se deforman. Al final, el objeto permanece quieto en el suelo, pero su sombra sigue allí, recordando que incluso las cosas más simples pueden crear imágenes inesperadas cuando la luz decide revelarlas.
