A massive DIY day
How is a massive DIY day relate the thumbnail? Frankly speaking, it does not. I have always been fond of making shitty title and writing some other stuff, and the picture usually doesn't fit to what I have written 😂 so, to me it doesn't really matter. It's just part of my day to start with.
It was a weekend morning walk after a very serious food trip with home minister to Kuantan, and I weighted couple of pounds heavier after we got back. Dude, it's just 3 days 2 night we're out of town and I put on 3kg 😂 so, it's time to get some serious morning walk trying to burn a little bit more. I'm already having trouble negotiating the steering wheel since my stomach stuck behind the wheel, I don't wanna have trouble finding my own dick when I wanna go pee.
The $30 IKEA chair
We bought this chair for more than 10 years already. The damper is pretty darn good, the roller are efficient too. Considering 11 years ago when we moved here, I was 200lb 😂 Until today, it still rolling strong. Don't look down on this little cheap IKEA chair, we have sex here when we're a little younger when there's not this much of children running around the house 🤫
I'm sure it's not how we punished the chair, but the stock upholster didn't hold up that well and it did went through a reupholstery couple of years ago, and then the damn wrapper given synthetic stuff that doesn't last for us and charges me $30 on the new wrapping skin. And they fell apart within 2 years. Afterwhich, I have been consistently changing chair cover manually a d doesn't give a damn on how horrible it looked anymore.
Since the new cover were broken again, so I got ourself a set of new chair cover, modify or and retro fit it to this office chair, started by loosing up the hexa screws at the sides.
I don't really need to loosen out one side of the chair first, but my computer chair were too "thin" to hold this seat, as I need to turn it upside down so I can easily remove the damper by removing more screws. You don't really need to use another chair to turn it around, if you don't mind working under the chair.
A small tip on removing and attaching the damper being, try to work crisscrossing instead of clockwise or counter clockwise. Reason being, this will allow the damper to stay "on top" for a longer of time.
Once the damper being removed, the other side of the arm rest is now the only component that holding the seat and the rest together.
This is how the seat looks like after all other supporting component being removed. I have recently posted about a DIY chair cover replacement, this is nothing much different than that. Take out the old cover, replace the new one.
After replacement of the clean chair cover, reverse the entire process by putting back the arm rests, reattach the damper and that ahould be easy enought. Don't forget to screw it back crisscrossing, adjust the placement before you tighten it down.
This is NOT a new cover, has been previously used, cleaned and now replacing the broken cover. It's nothing compare to PVC or leather, but it's clean and comfortable.
Cleaning the water supplies
We stay in old and low cost apartment at the northern Kuala Lumpur. Since it's old, we really can't complain much as rust building up old water supply system. We use element filter at the main supply to do some basic filtration and it requires to replace the filter very often.
If you're looking at the dirty filter on the right, you'll probably noticed the filtration was done incorrectly. The water should flow from the outside, and push into the center bore. We used to do that, but the outter later of the filter gunk up in a day or two from the outside, we won't know if the filter being utilized it's full potential. Often I took out the filter in a week, the inner tube is still very clean and white.
Due to the excessive wastage and inconvenient to observe the filter condition, I decided to get the inlet and outlet of filter fixed in reversal order. This way, I will be able to check the actual condition of the filter. No doubt, the filtration work may not be the best, but this is only the normal element filter of 0.5 micron, and we have a set of water treatment system, so it's not that big of a deal even if this door guard doesn't perform 100%.
Since I'm on it working on the water system, after fixing back the filter and notice the water flow wasn't smooth. I know certain water tap designed the way water flows in a linear smooth line like playing Nokia snake.
So I decided to check if the nozzle need a service or possible need a replacement of the exit grill. A piece of plumbing plier(also known as groove plier) is required. Don't forget to cover the clamping zone or you'll leave a hideous scratch mark on your water tap.
After I took out the guide, there's wire mesh at the exit to guard particles going through, served as one last layer of defence. Cleaning them up can restore for a better flow. If you like to have a better filtration, you can DIY cutting a piece of higher thread count stainless steel wire mesh and replace the stock mesh.
I certainly know the guide is very low pressure at the exit, so I don't really wanna use a plier to tighten it. I did it with bear hand and attach them back and that should do already.
Once it's ready, turn on the tap, and water floor a little smoother. Unfortunately, my phone camera can't tell the difference. I'm satisfied even it doesn't produce the Nokia snake, as long it doesn't splash everywhere.
Not forgetting the water heater also has a built in particle guard a.k.a filter. Not every water heater design the same, but am pretty sure most if not all has a filter to element particles from going into the heater.
The filter housing usually located at the main inlet control tap. In my case, it's right at the bottom of the water heater box, between the knob there's a small outlet.
Remove the casing, and immediately you can see there's a small handle exposed. The filter is flat and it's in the intersection between the water flow, that will help to catch big particles and stop them going into the heater. Pull the handle bar and you'll see once again a wire mesh filter there. Use an old tooth brush and it should easily brush away the dirt.
Reattaching is easy, I don't believe there's difference up or down since the filter does not indicate.
Once it was done, and the water flow become strong and powerful even without turning on the water pump. That's about a giant DIY day after coming back from a short holiday with home minister.

Well I am getting to this post a little late, life has been hectic lately, haven't missed posting this long since my Hive journey began. Nice surprise backstory on the chair, I needed the humor. Those little screens on the hot water heaters are always clogged in Cambodia. I always have to clean them in every hotel I've ever stayed in, well at the least the ones nice enough to have a hot water showers 😉.
Good that Cambodia still have the water heater that you can clean. most of the hotel's here in Malaysia, they use those specially made for hoteliers, concealed unit at the ceiling. And the water tap are those dual flow valve. Lift the liver and water flows, turn the liver to the left to get col water and right to get hot water. And usually the greatest struggle with this kind of setup being, hard to find the correct settings 😐 either hot until it peel your skin, or so cold until you will jump out of the shower stark naked.
That is the style I had as a kid, water heater too small for the amount of people and kids in the house, so whoever woke up late got cold showers. Even worse is when someone would flush the toilet the shower would get so hot it could melt your skin.
