Winter Hoarfrost

IMG_20241223_164129_Original.jpeg

Winter is not my favourite season. If I had to choose in order of least to most favourite, Winter would be least, followed by Spring, Fall, and Summer being my favourite. Now that being said, there are some very special things that happen in Winter, but not possible in Summer. Hoarfrost on the trees is one of them special things! A photographer’s dream. In order for hoarfrost to form, there has to be sufficient water vapour in the air, then at the “dew point” (when moisture turns to ice crystals / frost), the crystallized water then sticks to branches, needles and the like. Cool eh!

frost manages to create different leaf colors in an instant and becomes more attractive in the eyes of photographers.

Wow ... in San Francisco, regular frost is a rare phenomenon, but this is amazing -- I have heard of hoarfrost, but this is amazing to see!

I think winter photos as we still the most iconic in the world because a lot of countries don't have snow pictures. However since it's a season you're familiar with, I think you'll have more like summer which you prefer

I definitely have 10 times the winter photos for sure, still have plenty of summer and fall photos to share. Thanks for looking.

It really is beautiful when you get hoarfrost on the trees. You live someplace where that probably happens relatively often in winter. Winter is never anyone's favorite season unless you are into winter sports like I used to be when I was younger. Now, I hate the cold!

Those are great pictures, that last one looks great in monochrome. The pines I kind of like the color a little more, but then again I love greens...

Unless you are into winter sports as you say, not a favourite time of year. Just have to make the most of it. The monochromes turned out well, trees work well with this genre. Thanks for stopping by.

I might have to choose autumn as my favorite season and then summer, but there all have unique kind of beauty, and yes, winter offers photographers opportunity for spectacular shots that aren't common.

If the summer days get too hot, then fall feels better actually. Thanks for stopping by.
