Mountains > Lakes

Whenever I visit a lake in Banff Park, or any park for that matter, it is really all about the mountains, and the lake part is secondary! First thing I photograph is usually the towering mountain behind the lake. The mountains have all the character, the lake apart from the colour is just a bunch of water. That’s it. Of course if the water is a gorgeous turquoise of something, then it does become more special, but that is where it ends. Back to the mountains, so much character, so much to look at. What do you think? Photos taken at Water Fowl Lakes, Banff Park, Alberta.

The imposing mountains are what make the photo more incredible imo. It's a bit tricky to make a lake the protagonist when you have something so majestic behind :P

Man, those mountains are beautiful. Especially in monochrome. Wonderful shots!

Wow... ok... ok... That's like visiting heaven, I say!... What an imposing mountain!... It seems like a sacred location of those that are read about in ancient texts!.. . Magnificent photos as always @daveks friend... I have been absorbed observing the visual ensemble you achieve by combining the sky, the mountain, the pine forest and the lake all in the same photographic plane, looking magical both in color and in black and white...

Love the turquoise , and and the water color is just a reflection of the upper what have you , sky , landscape etc. So how do we get turquoise?

It’s magic! But really, it is the rock powder suspended in the water, as sunlight reflects off the surface.
