Land of the Osprey

DSC09633.jpeg

One thing I noticed while spending time in East Kootenay was the large Osprey nests built here and there. This Osprey thought that the top of an electrical pole was the ticket! I’m glad he posed for the camera. Mostly these nests are found near rivers, close to their prey of choice which are fish. These birds are not quite as large as a bald eagle, but they do have a wing span of up to 6 feet, compared to an eagle which are up to 7.5 feet. Thanks for stopping by.

She built her home in the right place, not just anyone can climb the pole. Her baby is safe from predators without wings. Only those with wings can do that.

Pretty much the safest place on the block yes. Impossible to steal eggs from there. The wind could be a concern at some point though.

What a place to build the nest! I gotta say I'm impressed by the size of the nest compared to the bird, it's pretty big!

Beautiful photo of that Osprey in its "pole nest"... But it was quite a shock for me to see this, because I've seen these birds here in my region during the rainy season and I never imagined they also lived in Canada!... But I went online to investigate and, wow, it turns out they're a species that's practically found all over the world!... So today I learned something new!... Thanks for this too, dear @daveks friend, as well as for the excellent photos as always!

PS: Oh my goodness, I loved that little dragonfly that appears at the top of that photo!... How wonderful!
