Flag Trees

DSC09806.jpeg

You know those trees that grow at an angle, affected by the constant flow of wind? I’m sure you have seen them. There is a name for them: Flag trees or Banner trees. I learned something new today by doing a bit of research on it. I found these trees on the road to Red Rock canyon, Waterton Lakes Park. The landscape was suited for that constant wind type of environment. Pretty neat actually. Imagine what this area was like when the 2017 fire ripped through here, wind would have been the enemy. Thanks for stopping by.

Una captura magnífica, Dave. Los "Banner trees" son un espectáculo de la naturaleza y lograste transmitir esa sensación de viento constante en una imagen estática. Un abrazo desde Villa de Cura

A magnificent capture, Dave. The "Banner trees" are a spectacle of nature, and you managed to convey that feeling of constant wind in a static image. A big hug from Villa de Cura

I just learned that trees that grow crooked are also caused by the wind. I thought they were just affected by sunlight. Thank you for sharing, I've learned something new.

Stunning photos

It still looks like the area is recovering from the 2017 fire. Although I don't know what the area looked like in 2017, did you by chance visited the area before the fire?

That constant winds will make those trees grow sideways for sure. Near where I grew up their was a canyon with almost constant wind coming out of it, and all the trees along the area near there were flag trees!

Beautiful shots as always. Too bad the whole area has burned recently, it must have been stunning when everything was still green!

Wonderful mountain landscapes. I especially like these last two photos in color with massive peaks in the background.
