First Look at Hourglass Lake

IMG_20240617_121850_Original.jpeg

This is it, our first look at Hourglass Lake! Located somewhere in East Kootenay, British Columbia. Elevation gain is 339 metres or about 1,100 feet. Roundrip is 6 kilometres or 3.6 miles. Look, snow! Honestly I wasn’t expecting to see snow, but there it is. The lake itself narrows substantially in the middle, making the lake look somewhat like an hourglass. Cool eh. It took us about 90 minutes or so to reach the lake. This hike is rated to be “moderate”. Perfect for someone like me. I like them in the easy to moderate range. Hard, no thanks. As usual I used my trekking poles, which I have come to love! I will never go hiking again without them. My knees like them very much, and are thankful I bought them lol. Any good hiking plans in the works this summer?

I love that you included the snow detail, it makes me want to visit even more. And yes, trekking poles are lifesavers no doubt

Is it still snowing at this time of the year? I could see the snow ontop of that mountain

At this higher elevation, yes. It even snowed briefly while we were there.

Your knees will thank you in the future, if you start using trekking poles now. Thanks.

Greetings @daveks ,

Hourglass....guess I missed it in the other post....the reason for the hourglass carving on the wood stepping block....I see. And what a beautiful mountain it is.

These are lovely photographs, every single one of them.

Cheers!

What a pretty place! Very cool that the snow is still sticking around. Trekking poles are a must when hiking, it just make it so much easier. I definitely wouldn't want to take a dip in that lake, I bet it's ice cold!

Yes, this would be some kind of cold to wake you up and then some! Thanks.
