A dollar today isn’t worth much anymore. What can you even buy for a dollar nowadays? Gum? Back in the 1960’s, when these dollar coins were minted, a dollar could buy you 3 cans of tuna. Now it will cost around $10 for the same 3 cans, at least up here in Canada. Every year the dollar loses its purchasing power (as we all know). What can we do about it? Nothing, except stack silver and gold (maybe even copper..), add in some quality crypto too. What are you stacking more of, metals, crypto or both?

It seems to be the same everywhere. Here even rupee has no value, part of inflation. Is this your coin collection. ?
How much value has the rupee dropped over the years?
I'm stacking gold, silver, Hive, some HE tokens, and a little Bitcoin.
It's pathetic what we used to be able to buy then versus now.
Then, the people responsible for devaluing the money have the audacity to lie to us about it. 🤬

Yep, all we can do is position ourselves for the best outcome.
Does ammo count as stacking metal? I'm definitely putting aside more crypto than metal, although not a lot of either are being done currently.
I would include that in a list of stackable items. I heard inflation is hitting that metal hard.
In Venezuela the currency lost 14 zeros in less than 15 years, 11 of those 14 zeros were dropped in a period of 3 years !!
Do you use American dollars there?
The US dollar is the main currency used in Venezuela, the bolivares is only used for small transactions or giving change.

The coin on the top right is a 1965 2 Bolivar silver coin that is worth more than this old uncirculated 20,000 Bolivar banknote.

Thanks, this 2 Bolivar silver coin is a part of my Collection, the banknote was borrowed from a friend that loves to collect old banknotes.

I also have a large 1903 5 Bolivares silver coin somewhere in my collection, but has considerable wear.
The paper of this bank note worths more than its nominal value. BTW this paper is of very good quality.
This note was issued in 2001, which is of the old "bolivares", this means it corresponds to 0.000000002 (2x10^{-9}) new "bolivares". Currently 1USD= 36 bolivares.
In other words, its nominal value is worthless.
The object lesson is we'd rather have 10,000 Silver 2 Bolivares coins that would yield 103 oz of fine silver that would now worth $3,618 USD today. Clearly demonstrates the Inflationary effect of recklessly printing fiat currency.

My father left me these same Canadian silver dollars, most of this series except for the 1947ml and the 1948 key date coins. My favorite being the 1949 Newfoundland commemorative. You have a lovely set @daveks

Haven't been watching the yen much these days. I do remember sometime back when 1000 yen was worth about 13 or 14 canadian dollars.
Ah yea, when the yen was high about 20 years ago. Now it's the reverse. It has fallen to 155 to 1 USD. So 20 years ago 1000 yen was about $13, but now ¥1000 is only about $6. So I'm sitting here watching prices around me shoot up and also my savings drop in value. No trips back to the US anytime soon for me! Not till this reverses anyway.

Yes, 80% not as much as the American ones.
Any silver is good silver! I love silver! Not much as the gold nuggets you can pick up for free in the mountains though!

Given the melt value of that Voyaguer dollar today ($16.36 US), it will still buy 3 cans of tuna. Real money has held its value over the years, while fiat currency, as you point out, "loses purchasing power every year." Keep stacking that real money (along with crypto, and ammo as others have pointed out; and maybe some long shelf life food) It's going to be a bumpy ride my friend. !BBH
