Around Cross River

An assortment of photos taken around the Cross river, East Kootenay, British Columbia. As you can see, the river carves its way through a deep canyon — very pretty in its own way (and sharp, steep cliff edges). I tried to find out what makes the canyon walls so white, but am unable to come up with an answer. Could it be a limestone like rock of sorts? What say you? We captured these photos on our return to trailhead, at Nipika mountain resort. Thanks for stopping by.

The view is breathtaking, especially this one. It features a striking contrast of white cliffs, a beautiful blend of green forest and blue water. Judging by the color, the cliffs are likely composed of limestone.

Wow, those canyon walls are so so beautiful. The bright white really does look like limestone or some kind of carbonate rock.

Who knows why they are so white? Maybe there is a geologist among us who can answer that one? Beautiful little river cutting through that canyon and surrounded by beautiful pines. What a great spot for pictures! I can see why you stopped there to snap some images. How was the weekend?
