A Few Banff Pics

IMG_0325.jpeg

This is the incredible Rundle Mountain, as seen from a walking bridge crossing the Bow river. One of my favourite views from around the town of Banff, without a doubt! There is still some snow visible on the right side of the river, but soon, toward the end of June, this river will be much much higher. It generally peaks end of June or early July, as the mountain snow melt winds down. If you have never had a chance to visit this place, certainly put it on your bucket list. You won’t regret it. Thanks for stopping by.

Very good question! Not sure what kind of tree it is. A pine or spruce maybe.

I really dig that first image as well as the lumpy tree. Both of those are awesome! The second one is kind of cool as it shows that panoramic mountain view, such a cool place. Great shots!

The lumps on the tree are called "Burl Wood." It is caused by stress or disease, the tree creates those lumps as a defense mechanism. Woodworkers pay high premiums for these deformations because of the patterns in the wood grain.
These two YouTube shorts explain "Burl Wood" further

Too bad this long weekend is going to be mediocre, maybe we are going to head out to the Okotoks or Canmore to walk around. I understand there are going to be some restrictions out towards Kananaskis soon for the g7 meetup. Have a happy Victoria Day.
