Back To The Castle (including interior)
Seeing as it was a lovely warm autumn day, I wanted to get out with my new drone and my camera to do some photography.
I wasn't sure where to go, but I decided to head down to Bolsover Castle (again), I'd done a shot the last time I was there with my old drone and wanted to recreate it with the new one, I didn't want to drive too far either, so about 20 minutes on the M1 and I was there.
The main carpark was full, it is a busy castle at times and it was about 11am when I arrived, but kind of knowing the area, I knew of a couple of other places where I could stick the car.
I thought I'd try the castle's overflow carpark out this time, one good thing about Bolsover is the free parking, but it's getting a spot thats usually tricky.
Once I had parked up, I had a quick look around to see if it was suitable to fly the drone, I wasn't comfortable flying from where I was as there were cars coming in the car park all the time, and people walking around, so I went back to plan "A", just around the corner off the main street is a pathway into a field, so decided to walk down there and get some drone shots before going into the castle. The sun was in the wrong position for the shot I wanted to get, but I did get some shots I rather like anyways, so it wasn't a wasted journey after all.
While I was shooting, I learned a little bit more about my new DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, I usually shoot bracketed shots with drones and then HDR them if needed, the drone also has a 48mp mode for stills, however, this is more restricted and you don't seem to have full manual control over the camera, again, this is something I generally shoot in. Overall, I think the 48mp mode is more of a gimmick and the quality of the pictures (to me at least) look worse than the standard 12mp shots, although I do enhance these in Lightroom which makes a the images bigger. Just a tip for anyone who has the same drone as myself.
After half hour with the drone, I decided to go inside the castle, I always love this courtyard part as that tree there is absolutely massive, and looks stunning with the autumn colours.
The moon was also shining bright and was out for most of the day, a great site over the autumn skies.
I am so glad I had my polarizer on the camera, it really did bring out the sky.
I ventured inside the castle and took a couple of shots of some of the rooms, I had to HDR these as the light is really low for the camera, only having an F/4 lens on there, I could have at least done with a F1.8, which I don't yet have lol.
(The ceiling of one of the rooms, there is so much more to this room, but I do love the artwork)
After spending a couple of hours, I thought I'd go and get some lunch, I had a craving for a baked potato, but this soon went when I saw for one with cheese and beans would have cost me around £7.50, I decided against it and bought a bacon sandwich instead, maybe it's because I'm from Yorkshire, maybe it's because I'm skint, but when it costs more for 1 potato than it usually does to buy a full sack of them, I think it's a bit of a rip off lol.
Anyhow, I really hope you've enjoyed this post and love the pictures, even those from within the castle.
Thanks for reading,
All the best :-)
