A Successful Morning....

Finally the rubbish weather is clearing off for now, I've just had a week of work and to be honest the weather has been shocking, but today, it was a lovely morning with great light for photography, I'm back at work tomorrow, so I thought I'd make the best of the light this morning.

So first of all, I headed off to my nearest castle (how many people can say that?) called Conisborough Castle, I won't go into much detail here, but it was inspiration for Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe that was published in 1819.

I love the bottom shot as it is a great view over the valley right up to Conisborough viaduct, which is a structure I need to get to to do some drone photograpy, it's massive and runs through a picturesque valley, if you follow the river it will lead you up to Doncaster.

The castle stands proud, and I always think of when I went on a school trip way back when I was about 6 or 7 years old, wow, that's over 40 years ago now, and now I've made myself feel old lol.

If you would like to learn some history of this lovely castle, please have a look at The English Heritage Website.

After I had finished photographing the castle I was thinking of where else I could go and decided upon "Roche Abbey", this is one of my all time favourite places, sadly it's closed to the public in winter months and doesn't open until the 1st of April, however you can walk around the perimeter up to the stepping stones and lake etc.

One of the reasons I decided to go to these places was that I had photographed them using my old drone, but I really wanted to get the shots with my new drone with a much much better camera, and on the up side is that they are fairly local within a 20 minute drive or so.

Heading down the the abbey is a bit treacherous as you drive down a very narrow cobbled road, there is the odd passing point but also a big drop down one side, so if you visit, be very careful on there.

I love sitting on a bench at the abbey, in the summer, hearing the water flow down stream, birds singing etc, it is one of the most peaceful places I have ever visited, certainly a place to contemplate etc.

If you'd like to know the history of Roche Abbey click here to see the official website.

I really hope you've enjoyed this post especially the pictures as that's what it's all about.

Thanks for reading,

All the best :-)

Defo not many people can say that! It’s a beautiful castle indeed.
Also glad the weather brightened up a little.

As a drone head myself I was smiling looking at these. Beautiful! I’m a big fan of shots looking directly down and you really bagged some great captures. Superb!

Great pictures! The last pictures of the Abby always make me want to grab a ladder and tools, and do some repair. They must have been majestic in their day, wouldn't it be wonderful to see that?

Thank you for such nice pictures!
