Hello again friends of the Pinmaple community. After telling you about my Roman adventure in Tunisia and the visit to my hometown: Valladolid, today I bring you a quick visit to the Nasrid city of Granada. There, as could not be otherwise, we visited the Alhambra. And in my travel post this week I'm going to tell you about my visit to one part of the general complex: the Nasrid palaces. Join me on this journey to the Muslim period in the south of the Iberian Peninsula.

Granada: reason for the visit

Visiting Granada doesn't need a special reason, but this little weekend getaway did. My wife has just finished a series of exams and I, in just three weeks, will have to spend three months totally absorbed in a tough work project, so this getaway can be considered a reward for my wife and a recharge of batteries for the coming weeks. Considering that we live just 300 kilometres away from Granada, it seemed the ideal destination for this little winter getaway. And yes, as you can see in the picture, my little daughter enjoyed the getaway by far the most.

The star of the Nasrid Palaces is more than likely to be known to you. The Court of the Lions, a rectangle with arcades and the famous fountain of the lions in the centre of the courtyard, you've probably seen it before. Not only in photos, but also in a Spanish series like Isabel, about the life of Isabella I of Castile "Isabel the Catholic" or more recently in a Tadeo Jones film. (Note: if you are studying Spanish, the Tadeo Jones films and the TV series Isabel and El Ministerio del Tiempo should not be missed) The Court of the Lions is the most visited place in the Palaces and, I would venture to say, in the Alhambra as a whole. But it's not the only thing you should visit in the complex.

More from the Nasrid Palaces

There are two other places that occupy a predominant part of the visit, always bearing in mind that the person who says this is my daughter. The first of the two places that the little expert of the house liked the most was the Mirador de Lin-dar-Aixa. As you can see, the ornamental architecture of the interior walls is overwhelmingly beautiful. Framing in an exceptional way the view to the outside courtyard.

The second was the spectacular interior ceiling of the Hall of the Two Sisters. Imagine accompanying her into the room and, once inside, telling her to look up at the ceiling to find the Dome of the Macarabs made of plaster and wood to create magnificent optical effects. The astonished look alone is worth the whole visit.

But there are more to visit

In addition to the Nasrid Palaces, in the Alhambra complex you can also visit the Alcazaba, the Palace of Charles V and the Generalife, all set against a backdrop of gardens and walkways of overwhelming beauty.

Perhaps what stands out the most from the rest of the visit is precisely the Palace of Charles V. The grandson of the Catholic Monarchs was initially going to live in the rooms of Daraxa and the Complejo de los Leones although he would end up having a palace built more in keeping with the needs of the Court. Construction began on the palace in 1526 and it was not completed until well into the 20th century.

In this post I wanted to tell you in detail about the visit to the Nasrid Palaces and, although they are only a part of the overall complex of the Alhambra, they are important and interesting enough for me to summarise them separately in a single post. And it is that as the little expert of the house has decided that this part is the one that she liked the most, it is the area that I detail.

To finish, another batch of photos with some other parts of the visit. I hope you liked it and enjoyed it as much as we did. By the way, have you visited the Alhambra? which part did you like the most? I read you and I wait for your comments and articles in this great community that is pinmapple!!!!
