When Technology Was A Carburetor

Green means GO!

IMG_7554.jpeg

Red means stop.

IMG_7553.jpeg

Yellow means

GO VERY FAST!!!!

IMG_7556.jpeg

It's how I learned to drive—Ford Festiva, 5-speed. That and stop twice at the next one. Reverse was addicting in that car on dirt roads.

Seatbelts were optional back then and texting while driving wasn't against the law because phones didn't do that yet.

T.e.X.t.n.g

Autocorrect was still in development.

Information was 25 cents, 50 on Sunday's and real life kids played outside. All of the neighborhood streets had kids playing on either side of the road if not in the middle of it.

We would pause 3 Flags Up when a car came.

Car!!

IMG_7550.jpeg

For every main road there was two dirt roads. Los Angeles County, California, early 90's—dirt roads from Disneyland to Santa Monica.

Back when timing and jets meant you're rebuilding a carburetor.

IMG_7564.jpeg

For every main road now there's 10 alternates and a thousand fakes. Venturing across town's so effortless now, word count counts as the first word.

Less characters, more eye candy. Attention spans are beginning to look a lot like dirt roads.

So I was munchin' on some of your eye candy. No I did not break a toof.

The clouds under the trees that are moving L👀k like they are moving too at first glance... Acid Flashbacks?

Only real crashes I been in (passenger & driving) were on those pesky dirt roads.

Traction... Kind of important while taking curves at high rates of speed.

Cars totaled 67 Firebird...

Randy's TA (Virginia 1991).jpg

69 Dodge Super Bee...
Rays Superbee 1983.jpg

Dead Superbee 1995.jpg

Laid my 86 honda V-45 magna down on it's side in a long slide to a T in that effing dirt road.

Hungover and late for work at 20 yrs old... "Fuckin Mundaze"

Dang man, you got some car photos to make @tattoodjay jealous. Eh, what made you vote 93?

Good year and I don't mean tires.

I ate a buncha shit on dirt roads too but never in a car that I can remember. YZ 250's go down GREAT on the dirt roads, seen my skeleton lately?

Much thanks, freight driver. Your comments never disappoint. I get a little '92 when you stop by. Shh...

OMG I don't think I've ever used that acronym and meant it. My man.. Pic'n Save, K-mart, I loved those stores! I always got a new matchbox when we went.
Looking back now, she obviously knew I'd occupy the hell outta myself looking for the best one I didn't already have while she did what she needed to do.

Can't do that anymore, either, could tou inagine?! They'll call CPS for sure!

Share your collection with me. Mine's with my record collection and baseball card collection and everything else that was in the unit.

You strike again. Thanks.

For sure. They're so much faster now. I dropped those off in the morning and they were done by lunch.

3 Flags Up was called Smear The Queer back then. I had it worded truthfull but.. It's 2023 now, truth crushes feelings and everyone's a sensitive armchair quarterback from fhe comfort of moms recliner so I censored myself.

Thank you.

So, you either got a new camera or you must have taken an online photography class.
Splendid pictures and being that we live on a dirt road and 90% of all of the roads in our town are prone to potholes the size of a basketball, mud that have you doing fishtails, and small streams flowing down them after a rainfall, those pics I can relate to. Wash your car and keep it in the dirt driveway if you want to see what color your vehicle is for more than a brief moment.
Attention spans have gone the way of playing outside, a thing of the past.
Seat belts being optional gave me the latitude to cut them out because I got tired of sitting on the buckle. At the last family gathering, we had a few laughs recalling the time I brought up an old couch to the farm and the three boys drove in the back of the pickup truck, while lounging in style on the couch. The only rule I had was if you see an officer of the law hide under the blanket. Those were the days.

Stay well and give your gal a hello from us.

Negative, still using the same-ol Kodak disposable.

Man, you just took me back to hiding under the blanket at the drive-in! Thank you. You are right, they were.

First one I was Scarface. Star 80 played before it. Imagine a 4 year old watched those today, it would be all over the internet. Look what you did, now I can't get out the the drive-in.

Always a pleasure hearing from you, Bob. Stay warm.

Drive-in theaters were the best. A few lounge chairs in the back of the pickup truck, a few blankets, and who really cared what was on the big screen.😍

The wood-burning stove is cooking as I type.

Dang, nice stone work. How tough is that, sticking rock to wall? Never done it. 1-10, how easy is an old bath/shower combo to upgrade to a walk-in?

The way I constructed the bluestone wall behind the wood stove took some time but was pretty easy. First I made 4 wooden panels that were made using 2 x 4s covered with 3/4 plywood and then covered in a wire lath. The panels were set on a pair of horses so all of the work was done while the panel was laying flat. From there I cut the stones and placed them on a bed of mud, After all of the stone was laid and the joints filled between the stone the panels were left to dry. I attached the four panels to the blocking that was secured to the existing wall. The difficult part was getting them in place which I did with a winch and a few pulleys.
It's hard to believe that 15 years have passed since Erica and I made this. She spent the entire summer at the farm and this was one of the projects we did together. It was the summer before her senior year in H.S. and she worked out like crazy the entire summer preparing for her final year of hoops. She would do double sessions working on her skills and conditioning. In the evening she would run a course that we set up on the property, covering 3 miles. When it was time for her to run I was exhausted having spent the double workouts she was doing right by her side. I must have rebounded 10,00 balls that summer. When it came time to run I sat on the couch on the front porch and as she passed me I would let her know her time and give her encouragement to pick up the pace.
That summer was one of the best summers ever.

She was one hard-nosed kid never backing down from anyone her senior year. That year the Lancers finished the season at 24 and 3. They won the conference title, and the county title and lost in the state quarter-final by 2 points.
She was named 1st team all-conference, and 1st team all-county.

One of her goals going into her final year was to score 1000 points and join her brother in that very exclusive club. Her name along with her brother's name now hangs on a banner in the gym. They are the only siblings to ever accomplish that feat.

Sorry for this long-winded story, but your question about the stone wall sparked some of the best memories of my lifetime.

WHEN LOVE AND SKILL WORK TOGETHER, EXPECT A MASTERPIECE. Erica chose this statement after hours of looking through a book we had.

What a great time recalling all of these details at this moment, she and her husband arrived last night and will be staying for the weekend.

Erica is one hell of a great kid.

expect a masterpiece.png

The bathroom question all depends on the level of skills you have if you are doing the work. You have been around construction much of your life so I would expect it would come in at about a five. Bathroom remodels along with kitchens are some of the most expensive renovations you can make to a home. Our oldest son specializes in bathroom and kitchen remodels and some of the prices he gets make my head spin. If you're having someone else do the work, expect to have your head spinning.

Good luck with the project however you go about it.

Later buddy
