Visited the Pórtico d’Ottavia and Theater of Marcelo in Roma - Italia 🇮🇹
Hi friends, I hope you are super happy, it's almost Friday and the body knows it! I'm going to do a pretty cool dynamic in my blog and I will take you to know the places in Rome that I visited, I hope you have already seen my first pasta, which by the way was delicious, and if not? I leave you the link Tasting pasta in Rome for the first time 🍝. Now the first thing I would like to tell you is that the ideal way to get to know Rome is to walk a lot, it has a lot of cathedrals, buildings and monuments in ruins that are very important and with a lot of history.
The first thing we visited and it was what appeared on the path that we traced was the Portico d'Ottavia It is the first public construction built by a woman. Ottavia was the younger sister of the Roman emperor Augustus.
The portico is located in the center of El rione de Sant'Angelo, it is a very busy place for tourists because in that same guetto of Rome, as they say, you can find other structures and porticoes different from other Romans.
And you may wonder Why are there so many porticos in Rome? I also wondered, the truth is that they had an important role in the Roman religion of that time, as they served as ceremonial space. They were also useful for meetings, presentations and certain Roman activities. Other sources mention that due to its Mediterranean weather they provided protection against rain, sun, wind and also when decorated with reliefs and sculptures they gave a visual attraction that represented the richness and power of the City.
Just a little further into the Jewish quarter, is the Temple of Apollo, is very impressive in size and shape. It was built in honor of the god Apollo by Emperor Caesar Augustus. This ancient ruin dedicated to the god is also called Apollo Sosianus, as it was later rebuilt by the consul Gaio Sosius 32 BC.
All along the front of the Temple of Apollo you can see the Theater of Marcellus, for its great resemblance to the Colosseum is said to be his famous big brother, in fact it was the first stone theater built in Rome and became a defensive fortress for many Romans. I would have liked to access it but it was not possible because it has no tourist access but you can appreciate its stones and the texture of the building from the outside.
At this point although it didn't seem like it we had walked a lot to get to such buildings so we decided to sit down for a while to hydrate ourselves in one of the restaurants. See you tomorrow in the next post. Can you guess what the next monument is?

It's amazing to see these ruins. If they were still intact; they would look gigantic. Ancient engineering is really interesting; they had the ability to build structures that lasted a long time. Indeed, walking around is the best thing to do in order to get to know a place better while exploring some details along the way.
