Following my tour through some places of the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia, today I show you something of Torredembarra, a town (municipality) that politically belongs to the province of Tarragona.

Like many of the towns I have known in these parts coexist in them two very well defined worlds: the modern part that resembles the big cities with its wide avenues, first class services and very active commercial areas, we find the "old part", so called by its inhabitants.

In the old part is kept that piece of history that, in many cases, gives name to the place and constitutes its idiosyncrasy, without leaving aside its tourist value that moves visitors to know a little more of the places they visit.

Such is the case of Torredembarra, which is also called The Tower by the locals and owes its name to a castle dating from the thirteenth century and that one of the columns of its wall is the emblem of the city.

Siguiendo mi recorrido por algunos lugares de la comunidad autónoma española Cataluña, hoy les muestro algo de Torredembarra un pueblo (municipio) que políticamente pertenece a la provincia de Tarragona.

Al igual que muchos de los pueblos que he conocido por estos lados coexisten en ellos dos mundos muy bien definidos: la parte moderna que se asemeja a las grandes ciudades con sus avenidas amplias, servicios de primera y zonas comerciales muy activas, encontramos la “parte vieja”, llamada así por sus habitantes.

En la parte vieja se resguarda ese trozo de historia que, en muchos casos, le da nombre al lugar y constituye su idiosincrasia, sin dejar de lado su valor turístico que mueve a los visitantes a conocer un poco más de los lugares que visita.

Tal es el caso de Torredembarra, que también es llamada La torre por los lugareños y que debe su nombre a un castillo que data del siglo XIII y que una de las columnas de su muralla es el emblema de la ciudad.

In the information that we find on one side of the tower and that I show in the photographs, part of the changes that the castle has undergone over time and its symbolic value for the community are recounted.

En la información que hallamos a un lado de la torre y que muestro en las fotografías se relata parte de los cambios que a lo largo del tiempo tuvo el castillo y su valor simbólico para la comunidad.

Today, the castle is the seat of the town hall and to access it we cross the village, as it is located in the highest part of it. In front of the tower is the church and with it is formed the triangle of historical monuments of the community: the tower, the castle and the church.

The church was finished at the end of 1680, with a very characteristic structure of the time formed by two central naves and one on each side where the niches of the virgins and saints are located.

When touring it is inevitable to make the relationship with the churches of my country and that we call generally colonial architecture, because having been a Spanish colony for three hundred years our main churches in different towns and cities have these characteristics.

Hoy en día, el castillo es sede del ayuntamiento y para acceder a él atravesamos el pueblo, pues se encuentra ubicado en la parte más alta del mismo. Frente a la torre está la iglesia y con ella se forma el triángulo de monumentos históricos de la comunidad: la torre, el castillo y la iglesia.

La iglesia fue terminada de construir finales de 1680, con una estructura muy característica de la época conformada por dos naves centrales y una a cada lado donde se encuentran ubicado los nichos de las vírgenes y santos.

Al recorrerla es inevitable hacer la relación con las iglesias de mi país y que llamamos de forma generalizada arquitectura colonial, pues habiendo sido colonia española durante trescientos años nuestra iglesias principales en los distintos pueblos y ciudades tienen estas características.

When leaving the church a few steps away is the castle (town hall), which as can be seen in the photograph has two recent floors that are the administrative offices of the town hall.

As anteroom it has a square surrounded by trees, a fountain and a legend that describes it historically with translation into different languages, in the third photograph I suggest the information in Spanish.

Al salir de la iglesia a pocos pasos se encuentra el castillo (ayuntamiento), que como se puede observar en la fotografía tiene dos plantas recientes que son las oficinas administrativas del ayuntamiento.

De antesala tiene una plaza rodeada de árboles, una fuente y una leyenda que lo describe históricamente con traducción a diversos idiomas, en la tercera fotografía sugmento la información en español.

Upon entering the building, the rigidity of its facade is transformed into a softer style, giving the place a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Currently, remodeling work is still in progress, however, the first floor, reception area and offices are well equipped to welcome users.

Al entrar es otra cosa, la rigidez de su fachada se transforma en un estilo más suave dándole al lugar una atmosfera cálida y acogedora. Actualmente siguen los trabajos de remodelación, sin embargo, la planta baja, zona de recepción y oficinas, están bien acondicionadas para darle, la bienvenida a los usuarios.

I want to emphasize that these renovations are under a concept of modernization, I imagine that the harmony of the set was not easy to find it because even when it completely breaks with the original concept seems to me that it is going very well, for matters of light in the photograph are seen azueles but are transparent glass with a slight smoky, as seen in the bathroom that leaving the original stone glass covers the entire contour. The arches of the doors and its vaulted ceiling help to maintain its antique spirit.

Quiero resaltar que estas remodelaciones están bajo un concepto de modernización, me imagino que la armonía del conjunto no fue fácil encontrarla pues aun cuando rompe completamente con el concepto original me parece que va quedando muy bien, por asuntos de luz en la fotografía se ven azules pero son vidrios transparentes con un leve ahumado, tal como se observa en el baño que dejando la piedra original un vidrio cubre todo el contorno. Los arcos de las puertas y su techo abovedado le ayudan, a mantener su espíritu de antigüedad.

The area that would correspond to the basement of the castle has been transformed into a historical museum and art gallery. I was very impressed by the texture of the ceiling of a remarkable roughness and yet beautiful.

La zona que correspondería al sótano del castillo ha sido transformada en un museo histórico y una galería de arte. Me impresionó mucho la textura del techo de una aspereza notable y sin embargo, hermoso.

The spaces are connected with narrow, low passages, the granddaughters were enchanted by the air of mystery that permeates.

Los espacios se conectan con angostos y bajos pasadizos, las nietas estaban encantadas con el aire de misterio que se respira.

In the exhibition there are handmade instruments for the making of barrels as well as photographs that show the work, paying homage to the workers.

En la exposición se encuentran instrumentos artesanales para la realización de barriles así como fotografías que recogen la faena, rindiéndole con ello, homenaje a los trabajadores.

We also found an oven. This photograph caught my attention because when I was working on it, I didn't see those vaporous silhouettes at the moment of the shot, they are just there and they seem strange to me.

También encontramos un horno. Me llamó mucho la atención esta fotografía pues cuando la estaba trabajando, esas siluetas vaporosas al momento de la toma no las vi, solo están allí y me parecen raras.

Following the tour is a dungeon, a completely dark and airless vault that just imagining someone in there chills the soul. On one side of the dungeon there is a legend of the symbols that the prisoners left in it, all related to the cross.

Siguiendo el recorrido se halla un calabozo, una bóveda completamente oscura y sin aire que de solo imaginar a alguien allí enfría el alma. A un lado del calabozo se encuentra una leyenda de los símbolos que los presos dejaron en ella, todas relacionadas con la cruz.

At the end of the tour we arrive at the art gallery where the exhibition of the painter Angel Algueró is located.

Ya para finalizar el recorrido llegamos a la galería de arte donde se encuentra la exposición del pintor Ángel Algueró,

Algueró presents a work full of colors and everyday life that impresses with its realism. Within the collection there are paintings that awakened my sensibility in a special way.

One of them is this one of the photographic cameras, because let's say that the most modern one, the one on the right in the foreground is identical to one I have that belonged to my dad, that fact alone made the author's work catch me.

Algueró nos presenta una obra llena de colores y cotidianidad que impacta por su realismo. Dentro de la colección hay cuadros que despertaron de manera especial mi sensibilidad.

Uno de ellos es éste de las cámaras fotográficas, pues digamos que la más moderna, la que se encuentra a la derecha en el primer plano es idéntica a una que tengo que pertenecía a mi papá, ese solo hecho hizo que la obra del autor me atrapara.

This second painting seems great to me, it conveys the love of the craftsman for his work: the small pieces of pastel that are kept for later use, the care or on the contrary the haste to tear the paper covering the chalk and that brings us closer to the mood of the painter at the time of work, the box itself shows order and concentration, in short this painting in my interpretive desire tells me things about the painter that may be true or false but in any case helps me to understand his work.

Esta segunda pintura me parece genial, en ella se transmite el amor del artesano por su trabajo: los trocitos de pastel que se guardan para usos posteriores, el cuidado o por el contrario la premura al desgarrar el papel que cubre la tiza y que nos acerca al ánimo del pintor al momento de trabajar, la caja en si misma demuestra orden y concentración, en fin esta pintura en mi afán interpretativo me dice cosas del pintor que pueden ser ciertas o falsas pero que en todo caso me ayuda a comprender su obra.

This painting (full of unwanted reflections) is masterful not only for the technique but also for what it expresses, the man's face is reflective, his gaze is questioning, it gives me the impression that he is asking life, "Is this all? While his right arm and hand, relaxed and relaxed, responds with a "it doesn't matter", however, the left hand holding the cigarette firmly maintains a challenging attitude as if to say: I know there is more, much more. These exercises of interpretation of works fascinate me and this artist, in my opinion, manages to transmit emotions and feelings in a very particular way. I loved the exhibition.

Esta pintura (llena de reflejos no deseados) que de entrada me parece magistral, no solo por la técnica, sino por lo que expresa el rostro del hombre. Es reflexivo, su mirada una interrogante, me da la impresión que le pregunta a la vida ¿esto es todo? Mientras su brazo y mano derecha distendida y relajada responde con un -¡no importa!, sin embargo, la izquierda sosteniendo firme el cigarrillo mantiene una actitud retadora como diciendo: sé que hay más mucho más. Estos ejercicios de interpretación de obras me fascinan y este artista, según mi criterio, logra transmitir emociones y sentimientos de una manera muy particular. Me encantó la exposición.

With this we closed our morning visiting the town hall of Torredembarra, when we left we took a different route because I wanted to photograph some narrow streets of the town that are very picturesque and that give you the impression of a return to the past with elements of the present.

Con esto cerramos nuestra mañana de visita al Ayuntamiento de Torredembarra, al salir tomamos una vía distinta pues quería fotografiar algunas angostas calles del pueblo que son muy pintorescas y que te dan la impresión de una vuelta al pasado con elementos del presente.
