Details of the boulevard

Today I walked through the center of the city where I live, Maracay, Venezuela. Every city creates its own spaces where passersby can enjoy a bit of calm within the traffic and the volume of people who are looking for goods or services.

The Perez Almarza Boulevard, fulfills this pleasant function along five blocks that cross the most important avenues of downtown in its north-south direction.

Hoy anduve por el centro de la ciudad donde vivo, Maracay, Venezuela. Cada ciudad crea sus espacios de desahogo donde los transeúntes podemos disfrutar de un poco de calma dentro dl trafíco vehicular y el volumen de personas que andamos en búsqueda de algún bien o servicio.

El Bulevar Pérez Almarza, cumple esta agradable función a lo largo de cinco cuadras que atraviesan las avenidas más importantes del centro de la ciudad en su sentido norte- sur.

I had already walked a good distance when I realized that I could take some pictures to share. What made me realize it was this mural that adorns the intersection of Bolivar Avenue and gives continuity to the walkway. It is a mural that represents our African roots and the coastal peoples of the state, showing cocoa as a symbol of one of the main economic activities of the region.

As I crossed the road, I noticed a peddler with his load of spiky flowers that some people like to make floral creations.

Ya había caminado un buen trecho cuando me di cuenta que podía tomar unas fotografías para compartirlas. Lo que me hizo caer en cuenta fue este mural que adorna el cruce de la Avenida Bolívar y que le da continuidad a la caminería. Es un mural que representa nuestras raíces africanas y los pueblos costeños del Estado, mostrando el cacao como símbolo de una de las principales actividades económicas de la región.

En lo que crucé, me llamó la atención un vendedor ambulante con su carga de flores espigadas que hay quienes gustan para hacer creaciones florales.

As we approached the last stretch, we observed the area less congested with people, some of them looking for shade under the growing trees.

Something that impacted the Maracayeros when a few years ago they remodeled the boulevard were these "screens" that broke with the urban concept of the city and that distinguishes it in its definition of "the Garden City of Venezuela", because our squares are distinguished by their leafy trees and this place also had them, it was so much the collective discomfort that they opened some spaces to plant some that, little by little, are growing.

I must admit that I am losing my shyness for these things and I asked a passerby to take a picture of me.

Ya acercándonos hacia su último tramo observamos la zona menos congestionada de personas, algunas de ellas buscando sombras bajo los árboles en crecimiento.

Algo que impacto a los maracayeros cuando hace unos años hicieron la remodelación del bulevar fueron estas “mamparas” que rompieron con el concepto urbanístico de la ciudad y que la distingue en su definición de “la Ciudad Jardín de Venezuela”, pues nuestras plazas se distinguen por sus frondosos árboles y que este lugar, también los tenía, fue tanto el malestar colectivo que abrieron unos espacios para sembrar algunos que, poco a poco, van creciendo.

Ya para cerrar se encuentra esta “chica” con la que quise tomarme una foto, debo reconocer que estoy perdiendo mi timidez para estas cosas y le pedí a un transeúnte que me tomara la fotografía.
