Any car enthusiast knows the respect that the Toyota Supra has earned. The 90s Supra is one of the most respected JDM cars from that era, perhaps ever. The Supra was recently revived with the 5th-generation model in the 2020 model year. I love the looks of the new one more than pretty much every other new coupe. However, today I thought it would be fun to revisit the Toyota Supra RZ '97.
I already had this car in my collection, so I did not have to waste any of my valuable Gran Turismo 7 credits buying it. I did however spend a few hundred thousand on modifications though. More on how that changed the performance of this car later in this post.
The main thing (outside of driving) that I care about with my car builds is getting the livery to turn out as good as I envision it. I knew going into this one, my color was going to be purple. There were plenty of user-uploaded designs to work with, so it didn't take me long to figure out what I was wanting to do with the design.
You can see this post is accompanied by photos of the car that I captured in-game using the Scapes photo mode. I got quite a few nice photographs and you should be able to enjoy the full beauty of this car.
First, a bit of history about the Toyota Supra RZ...
Toyota took its flagship sports car, the Supra, in an entirely new direction when it introduced the fourth-generation variant in May 1993. This was evident from the car's unique exterior styling that featured a long nose, large fixed rectangular headlights, and slim taillights on a round rear. It looked nothing like the previous model or anything else on the road for that matter. It sat 4.7 inches wider and 3.9 inches shorter. Inside the cockpit was a snug 2+2 layout with the dashboard wrapping around the front-seat occupants.
Two engines were offered, a naturally aspirated and turbocharged version of the 2JZ. The base 3.0-liter DOHC inline-6 produced 221.9 HP while the turbocharged one cranked out 276.1 HP. A race version of this engine is said to have 394.5 HP to 493.1 HP, so it was far from reaching its potential in the Supra, though many aftermarket tuners managed to reach that figure and beyond. The engines came mated to a 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, or a new Getrag 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Supra's suspension consisted of double wishbones at all four corners, tuned to provide maximum cornering prowess. Thus, ride quality was on the stiff side, but this FR (Front engine, Rear drive) car possessed the best handling in its class.
Specs after mods:
717 hp
690 ft-lb torque
2562 lbs
I took the 3.0 twin-turbo V6 and pushed it to the max. After all the additional performance parts, this thing topped out with over 700 horses. It's a pretty insane figure, especially for a car from the late-90s. Despite being so powerful, it still handles like a dream. I have a habit of sliding around corners with this car, but I never seem to lose control of the drift. It's usually really hard to powerslide in GT7, but this car with these numbers makes it easy.
One thing I also did that I don't always do with my other cars is the addition of a wide-body kit. This stretches out the rear end to make it slightly wider and increase performance ever so slightly. Plus, I think it just looks really good and that combined with a super low car is just so menacing on the tarmac.
As for my design, I wanted to invoke a sense of loss mixed with lust. This is why I have the mustached man crying over his addiction toward the lovely little demon girl. No matter how much pain he feels thanks to her, he keeps coming back for more.
I added a few lightning bolt-eyed skulls and crossbones to multiply that sense of darkness mixed with an electrified feeling of enjoyment. I didn't want the rest of the car to be plain, so I used as many different geometric designs in unison as I could.
I'm not huge on chrome rims like I was back in the Pimp My Ride days, but I think that was the color that looked best with this livery design. Paired with white Brembo brake calipers, the shoes on this bad boy look so damn good to me.
The photographs in Scapes mode turned out great as usual. My favorite shots of this car are the ones in motion. If we know the Supra is meant to be driven fast, then why not capture it while that happens? The combination of the unique design blended with the varying locations adds so much to the overall awesomeness of this car.
What do you think of my Purple Nightmare Toyota Supra RZ '97?
I created a music video for this car, check it out at the end of this post.
The song is "OG Purp" - Espantraxx, Alien Boy

Appreciate it my friend 😎
the decoration of this vehicle is great and I really like the photography from Tahiti with the palm trees
I’d love to visit Tahiti one day.
Your design really represents Toyota from Japan; they always manage to make their own signature animated cartoon.
Have their cartoons been contagious since we were kids?
You also "bring it" back into your designs; that's great.
A music video for that car is so cool!
The Japanese aspect of this car is quite clear thanks to the livery.
Thanks for checking this one out bro.
They are great sports cars that anyone would love to own and drive. Also, all the decorations are wonderful.
That is 100% true.
IS THAT A SUPRA??!
:p
and that u crying on the side of the car?? 😢
I love the guy that spray-cleaned his glasses off. People go crazy for a Supra. If that's me crying, then I promise those are tears of joy.
😎😭😊
Is this your first car?
No it is not. I got this one for free halfway through the menu books and it is one of many custom livery designs I have made.
I'm sure you own one, what was it like when you had your first car?
This looks exactly like a car I have to stand next to and get my pic taken. My sister would go nuts lol!
I know I'd be getting a photo next to it too. I'd be dying to drive it also. Or at least ride in it.
