June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!
Greetings, Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!
I hope the new month is treating you well so far, and that everyone in your family is happy and healthy!

Shangri and Nala when we first adopted them from the local shelter
Since it is now June, we wanted to talk about something that is near and dear to our hearts, because all the feline friends who live at our place came from animal shelters.
We wanted to let everybody know that June is actually "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!" This is an awareness campaign started by the ASPCA, coinciding with the peak of what is generally known as "kitten season."

Snacktime!
This is the time of the year when animal shelters tend to be inundated with cats — in particularly kittens — and there are thousands of them waiting to find loving forever homes.
This year — in order to help as many shelter cats find loving homes as possible — the ASPCA has actually extended Adopt a Shelter Cat Month all the way to July 31st!

Two of our former shelter cats: Kramer and Orange, circa 2011
Although we definitely have nothing against pedigreed cats, we strongly encourage all Hoomans who have been considering adding a feline friend to their family to find their new family member through their local animal shelter.
Of course you can still help out even if you are not ready to give a furry creature a new forever home because many animal shelters need volunteers to help out, and they are also looking for donations not just in terms of money, but also things like towels, blankets, and food.

Curator Cat (Shadow) as a kitten
Although it varies by location, many animal shelters are offering reduced or completely waived adoption fees for cats during the month of June. You would have to check with your local animal shelter to see if they are participating in this program.
Of course, adopting a shelter cat is not just about kittens. There are also many adult cats who are brought in because their Hoomans either passed away, or had to move to living situations that did not allow them to take their furry friend with them... which is a very tragic event for a cat to experience, but it does happen when elderly folks move to assisted living or nursing homes.

Hello!
Although we did not get her from a shelter, our elderly housemate Smudge came to us as a senior cat and has given us a great appreciation for the joy you can get from giving an older cat a second chance for the last few years of its life.
Anyway, if you have been considering adding a new feline friend to your household why not do so this month of June! We feel sure you will not regret it!

Thanks for visiting our little cat blog, and we hope to see you again soon! Until then, have a lovely remainder of your week!

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communities!
If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?
These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!
HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!
Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!
Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!
Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!
Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.
There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

I adopted a streetcat recently. She's still a streetcat but stays in the garage. So far in a week she has offered on my doormat two mice and a bird🫣
Well, thank you for giving a home to a street cat!
Clearly, she understands that your place is "home" now, since she's contributing to the family!
