Wandering Through Orchard Road’s Weekend Vibes

Last Sunday, I went on a little adventure to Orchard Road to see what’s been happening there. It’s been a while since I last walked around the city, so I wanted to take the opportunity to visit, especially since the weather has been really pleasant lately. There was a consistent, cool breeze, particularly in the late afternoon. As soon as my alarm went off at 5 p.m., I headed to the MRT station to start my trip. The timing couldn’t have been better because Orchard Road was hosting a jewelry and accessory bazaar along the sidewalk.

Although I usually prefer visiting food bazaars rather than accessory ones, I decided to go along with it since I was already there. Who knows, maybe I’d find something I needed or something unique that caught my interest. To cut the story short, I didn’t end up buying anything (LOL). Still, I enjoyed taking photos along the way. So, this “photowalk” turned out to be more about burning calories than gaining any. If it had been a food bazaar, I would’ve been eating and drinking while walking already (LOL).

I think bazaars like this are more popular among the younger generation. Most of the accessory designs seemed to suit their tastes and age group. The only exception was the biggest stall, or tent in this case, near Takashimaya Mall. It had a large gateway design that really stood out. One of the staff noticed me taking a photo of the entrance and kindly invited me inside to take more pictures. However, I politely declined since I’m not really into high-end jewelry (haha). Plus, I was already getting hungry and was on my way to 313 Somerset Mall for dinner. That pretty much sums up my priorities last Sunday! :D

During events like these along Orchard Road, there are usually street buskers taking advantage of the increased foot traffic. Most of their performances involve singing. I think it’s mainly on weekends that you’ll see more of them, performing at different spots along the road. I noticed that almost every major mall had at least one busker performing, which made me wonder if there’s a fee or system to regulate where and when they perform. I guess there must be, otherwise it would be hard to manage the rotation of buskers.

Overall, my little trip to Orchard Road turned out to be a refreshing way to spend a Sunday evening. Even though I didn’t buy anything, I enjoyed the lively atmosphere, cool breeze, and the chance to capture some nice street photos. Sometimes, it’s not about shopping or ticking off a to-do list—it’s simply about slowing down and appreciating the city’s vibrant charm.

Orchard Road always has such great lights and energy. It’s nice to just walk around, enjoy the performances, and take photos without needing to buy anything.
