Wandering into Calm... Finding Beauty in the Everyday

(Edited)

This Monday felt busier than usual, draining much of the energy I’d just topped up yesterday 😂. To shake off some of that stress, I chose a relaxing walk around the Geylang Bahru area. It’s one of those estates that sits close to the city yet still feels like a quaint neighborhood. Many of the HDB blocks retain their older designs, and a few industrial buildings remain, so the area is still a mixed-use development. Over the next one or two decades, though, it’s set to evolve into one of the city’s most innovative estates—when that happens, it could become one of the best in town.

For now, I’m enjoying a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Kallang River. With weather like today’s—not too warm, with a steady, comfortable breeze—I managed to capture some interesting photos. Ending a hectic Monday this way feels perfect: soaking in the neighborhood’s calm while fitting in a pleasant bit of exercise.

As soon as I crossed the road and saw the gentle waves of the Kallang River, a sense of serenity washed over me. The people strolling along the walkway added a welcome liveliness. From where I stood, I could see the gracefully arched bridge, and beside it a temple that looked majestic, even though it was dwarfed by the tall HDB blocks.

I thoroughly enjoyed taking photos along the riverbank, too.

It’s been a while since my last photo walk, so I really enjoyed today’s outing. It reminded me how much I miss heading out and exploring places for the first time. I find joy in discovering spots, no matter how ordinary they may seem, and each little adventure adds excitement to an otherwise boring day, haha.

While wandering, I stumbled upon some fascinating landmarks, such as the colorful bridge that links the HDB blocks to a new condo development. Hidden away from the usual crowds, gems like this aren’t very well known, which makes me even prouder to have found them on my own during this walk.

Today’s walk reminded me of the simple joys of exploring and noticing the beauty in overlooked places. Even in familiar neighborhoods, there’s always something new to discover. I’m grateful for moments like these that turn an ordinary day into something memorable.

for me this is the best part of photography: just walking into something you have no idea what to expect in, just discovering and living; even if in the end you go home with no new pictures

I recognise this exact path. Used to rollerblade through here from my house to MBS. That sloped area near the temple is deceptively steep!

You should try kayaking on Kallang River if you got a chance, quite an experience paddling through the neighbourhood.
