My Entry to the CCC Street Art Contest: “Discovering hidden gems along Desker Road”

avatar

Sometimes, venturing beyond the main streets can lead to pleasant surprises. This is especially true in Singapore, where hidden gems are tucked away in places that may not be obvious at first, but reveal themselves as delightful discoveries.

If you’ve been following my blog, you may have noticed that I contribute to the Street Art community by participating in the CCC Street Art contest. It’s been a great opportunity for me to learn more about art, especially since I’m currently exploring digital art. While it’s not the same as creating street art, I find there’s a connection between the two forms of expression. What’s even more exciting is that the street art I come across during my regular art hunts often serves as inspiration for my own creative projects.

Little India isn’t typically known for its street art, so I wasn’t expecting to find much. However, when I stumbled upon a piece, I was thrilled to discover something fun and playful.

I found this artwork along Desker Road, quite by accident, after dining at Usman’s restaurant. Across from the restaurant, there’s a Value Dollar shop, and the entire side of the building is covered in street art with a variety of subjects. It’s like a tapestry of different pieces, all blending together into one cohesive work of art.

There's another alley where I noticed the crows were quite aggressive, lol. To be honest, they startled me a bit as I passed through. I think it’s the first time I’ve felt anxious walking through an alley while being watched by crows. There were about five of them at the time. Two were trying to get food from cartons on the ground, while three others perched on the edge of the roof, watching.

The good thing that happened after I passed through this alley was that I discovered another piece of street art. It was an origami-inspired mural painted on the wall of a shop. I liked the concept because it combined two different elements into one cohesive piece. Interestingly, it felt connected to my earlier experience with the crows. I found a symbolic link between the crows and the origami art, which made the artwork even more intriguing.

In the end, every street art piece tells a story, just like the unexpected moments we encounter along the way. Whether it’s crows watching from above or discovering hidden murals, the streets always have something to offer if we pay attention. I’m excited to continue my street art hunts and see what other surprises are waiting to be uncovered.

Many people think that street art makes urbanism ugly, I think it depends on talent and what you are sharing with us is great and attractive. What great work and what great shots @curamax friend!

Great wall with this huge work. In Montreal too, it's in the alleys that you'll find the most beautiful StreetArt works, but without the crows, here it's the squirrels, and they're not very scary 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a great Week

It's true that they're more harmless... photographed in my yard a few months ago
