I found a big umbrella-like mushroom

Hello Fungi Lovers!

I found a huge mushroom on the side of the palm tree near my place, hence I just joined the Fungi Lovers community.

My knowledge about fungi or mushrooms is "nothing". I haven't paid attention to my Biology class during my secondary school days. What I'm aware of is that not all mushrooms are edible. According to an old knowledge that I know is that a mushroom is considered inedible if it has a "ring" around its stem. I guess that's just a basic indication of which among the mushrooms are the ones to be avoided for consumption.

There is another old knowledge that I remember is that when it grows on a palm tree or banana plant then it is edible. That is something that I wouldn't rely on as a basis of whether a mushroom could be eaten or not, especially since the consequence could be fatal.

When I found this mushroom, I was struck by its color and size. It's almost pure white. It doesn't have any "powdery" dust on its surface. And the skin looks solid which is an observation based on its appearance. I didn't touch it because I knew nothing about this type of mushroom. I tried to bend down and used my phone to take a photo of how it looks like under this umbrella-like head.

The gap is too narrow for me to see the stem of the mushroom. At this point, I don't have any intention of touching this one because I don't like to be contaminated if this thing has spores or any kind of toxic chemical on its skin.

For now, I'm happy to share the photos with the community and see if anyone can advise me about this kind of mushroom that grows on the side of the palm tree. I left it there untouched.
