Cycling Adventure Around Raffles Place

Last Sunday, the weather was just too perfect to stay at home. The sky was bright, the clouds looked soft and dramatic, and the city had that warm weekend feeling that made me want to go outside. I didn’t want to waste the nice weather doing nothing at home or just watching Netflix movies, so I decided that it was another good day for a cycling adventure.

This time, I headed over to the Raffles Place area.

I chose this place because I heard that there were public art displays around the area, and that immediately made me curious. For me, cycling is not only about exercise. It is also about finding something interesting in the city, whether it is architecture, public art, old buildings, or just a beautiful sky between skyscrapers.

I started my trip by arriving at Shenton Way MRT Station and then went to Lau Pa Sat for lunch. It was a good way to begin the day because, of course, cycling is always better when the stomach is already satisfied. After having a nice lunch, I rented a bicycle and started riding toward Raffles Place.

One thing I realized during this ride is that cycling around the city is actually quite convenient. There is a lot of shade from the tall buildings, and the pavements around this area are generally smooth. Of course, I still had to be careful because it is still a busy city area, but during Sunday, the pace felt more relaxed. It was not as crowded as weekdaysn, so I could enjoy the ride without feeling too rushed.

Another thing I like about cycling in the city is that there are so many subjects for architecture photography. Everywhere I looked, there was something interesting. The skyscrapers, glass reflections, heritage buildings, bridges, open spaces, and public artworks all made the area feel visually exciting.

As soon as I reached the Raffles Place MRT area, I saw the modern art display that I came for. It was very colorful, bold, and futuristic. The form was not something I could understand immediately from just one angle. I had to cycle around it and look at it from different sides to appreciate its shape. That made the experience more fun because it felt like the artwork was changing depending on where I stood.

The skyscrapers around the area also gave such a strong city vibe. I kept looking up and taking photos because the buildings looked so impressive against the blue sky. I think the ultra-wide lens on my phone was the perfect tool for this kind of place. Without it, it woiuld be difficult to capture the height of the buildings and the way they surrounded the open sky.

The blue sky with scattered clouds made everything look picture-perfect. The photos may not have the drama of a sunset, but the bright daylight gave the city a calm and clean look. It made the glass buildings shine, and the shadows from the clouds added more depth to the photos.

One of my favorite buildings during this ride was definitely The Fullerton Hotel. It looks classic, elegant, and very imposing even from afar. I always enjoy seeing buildings like this because they give the city a sense of history. In one direction, you see modern towers, and then suddenly, there is a grand heritage building standing proudly beside the river.

The steel bridges near Fullerton were also a beautiful sight. I really like using bridges in my photo compositions because they create leading lines toward the subject. They naturally guide the eyes into the frame, and with the sky, river, and buildings around, the whole area becomes a perfect photography spot.

It was a warm day and honestly a bit tiring, but it was definitely worth it. I came home with nice photos, a good city ride, and another memory to share with you, my Hive friends.

See you in my next cycling adventure!
