Collecting Sunsets in Singapore

It has become a little habit of mine to take a photo of the sunset whenever I have the opportunity to do so.

It doesn’t really matter whether the view is very stunning or just an ordinary one. As long as I see the sky slowly changing its colors, I feel the urge to stop for a while, take out my phone, and capture that short moment before it disappears. And because of that habit, I realized that over the past few months, I have already collected dozens and dozens of sunset photos here in Singapore.

So I thought it would be fun to compile some of them in a single post today.

Most of the time, I only share these photos as short posts or quick updates on my other socials. But when I looked back at my gallery, I felt like these sunsets deserve a proper place where I can record them together. There is something satisfying about seeing all these different skies in one collection. It feels like a small achievement, not because I planned it seriously, but because I was able to notice and capture these little moments whenever they appeared.

That is also one of the good things about having a platform like Hive. I can post these photos here, write a little story behind them, and keep them safely recorded on the blockchain. For me, it feels like creating a visual diary of the skies I have witnessed.

What I noticed about sunsets here in Singapore is that not every day gives you an immaculate sunset. In fact, I find it quite rare to see one that looks really dramatic. Maybe because Singapore is surrounded by buildings, roads, and busy city scenes, the sunset can sometimes feel hidden behind the skyline. There are also many days when the clouds cover the colors too quickly, or the sky just turns grey without much surprise.

When I see photos of sunsets from places like California online, they often look so wide, golden, and cinematic. I have not witnessed a California sunset myself, but from the photos I’ve seen, they look like the kind of sunsets that easily make people stop and stare. In Singapore, I feel like you have to be a little more patient. You have to keep looking, because the beautiful ones do not happen every day.

But that also makes it more exciting when one finally appears.

Among all the sunset photos I took recently, there was one that really surprised me. The whole sky looked like it was on fire. It was filled with strong red-orange colors, and the clouds were glowing as if the sun had painted them from underneath. I honestly did not expect to see that kind of sunset here in Singapore. It felt like I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time.

Some sunsets were softer, with pastel pink and purple colors slowly fading behind the buildings. Some were reflected beautifully on the water, making the city look calmer than usual. Some were taken while walking beside the road, with buses, cars, traffic lights, and people moving around like it was just another normal evening. But for me, those ordinary scenes became more special because of the sky above them.

That is probably why I enjoy taking sunset photos so much. It makes me pay attention to the present moment. Even in a busy city like Singapore, there are still small pauses of beauty waiting to be noticed.

So my goal in the coming months is to keep collecting more sunset photos whenever possible. I want to keep recording them here, one sky at a time.

Hopefully, I will be able to see more sunsets like these again.
