Blue Hour Cycling Around Kallang
Tonight’s cycling adventure brought me to the Kallang area, and honestly, the weather was what convinced me to head out in the first place. The sky looked especially clear this evening, with fewer clouds than usual, and that immediately made me think of blue hour. On nights like this, the light feels cleaner, the colors look richer, and every view seems to have a little more magic in it.

That is one of the best things about cycling. It gives me so much flexibility when I am chasing light and looking for good photo spots. I can move quickly from one place to another, but I can also stop anytime I want. If I see an interesting corner, a nice crossing, or a stretch of road with a beautiful backdrop, I can just pause for a while, take a few shots, and then continue. Because of cycling, I have become much more productive when it comes to taking photos during this very brief moment called blue hour.

And here in Singapore, blue hour is really not much of an hour at all. It is only a short window before the sky becomes too dark and the effect is no longer as nice. That is why I always feel like I have to move with purpose during this time. My strategy tonight was simple: quickly look for a spot with a strong view, take the shot, and then move on to the next location before the light changed again.

That made the whole ride feel exciting. Every stop felt intentional. Some places offered wide open views of roads and traffic, while others had softer and quieter details like trees, buildings, and bits of evening color still lingering in the sky. I also noticed how much character Kallang has at this time of day. There is movement everywhere, but it does not feel overwhelming. The city lights begin to come alive, vehicles start creating streaks of motion, and the buildings slowly glow against the deepening blue sky. It is such a nice atmosphere to experience on two wheels.
Another part of my strategy is something I have learned naturally over time. Whenever I get stuck at a crossing, I use that waiting time as an opportunity to take photos as well. Usually, waiting at a crossing only takes around three to five minutes, which is not long in general. But when you are trying to capture as much as possible during blue hour, every minute counts. So instead of seeing it as dead time, I now see it as a chance to observe more closely. Sometimes the best angles appear right there while waiting for the light to change.

The more I cycle, the more I realize how beautiful my city really is. There are so many places I get to see only because I am on a bicycle. If I had to rely only on public transport, I probably would not stop by many of these in-between spots. Cycling makes the city feel more connected, more open, and more personal. You notice the roads differently, the trees differently, and even the spaces between familiar landmarks start to feel interesting.

I think a big part of that is also because the city has built such an amazing network of park connectors and cycling-friendly paths. It makes exploring feel safer and much more enjoyable. Because of that, a simple evening ride can easily turn into a small adventure filled with good views and unexpected photo opportunities.

That is about it for tonight’s cycling adventure around Kallang. It was a simple ride, but one that reminded me again why I enjoy cycling so much, especially on evenings with weather like this. See you on my next cycling adventure.
