Flower and Plant Festival [ENG-PT/BR]

Floral carpets, flower and plant exhibitions, traditional cuisine, and cultural activities throughout the day on May 16 were the festivities organized by the City Council for the city of Coimbra, Portugal.

The event aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of plants in environmental conservation, agriculture, and sustainable food production. This edition also highlighted women’s contributions to agricultural and food production and the preservation of traditions, as part of the celebrations for the International Year of Women in Agriculture.

The floral displays in various squares and streets of Baixa (the historic district) were created by local folk and ethnographic groups, giving the festival a strong sense of community and intergenerational connection.

Festa da Flor e da Planta

Tapetes floridos, exposições de flores e plantas, gastronomia tradicional e animação cultural ao longo de todo o dia de 16 Maio passado, foi a animação que a Câmara Municipal proporcionou à cidade de Coimbra, Portugal.
O evento pretendeu sensibilizar a população para a importância das plantas na conservação do meio ambiente, na agricultura e na produção sustentável de alimentos. Esta edição assinalou ainda o contributo das mulheres na produção agrícola e alimentar e na preservação das tradições, no âmbito das comemorações do Ano Internacional da Mulher na Agricultura.
A criação de tapetes floridos em várias praças e ruas da Baixa (zona histórica), foram elaborados por grupos folclóricos e etnográficos do concelho, conferindo ao festival um forte sentido comunitário e intergeracional.
