RE: Hiking in Vienna 🍂 (New drama on Hive, newbie scammer network revealed?)

avatar
(Edited)

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

One would imagine that a hive meetup would be open to all: even to the individuals who are yet not registered on hive and would like to meet the community and learn more.

Sadly, I was told in the Vienna group that a new person is allowed to attend the hive meetup only after they register for a paid workshop. Unfortunately, the first impression for an outsider looks like the hive meetup is a closed community.

Any suggestions/ideas how to on-board a new person and introduce them to community without them taking a workshop?

Everyone can come to our meetups without paying, or booking any workshops. I think the best approach is indeed to come to the meetup and getting help from other hivers to create an account. For free. Offering mandatory workshops would be shady and is not the case to my knowledge. I think the paid workshops are a different thing outside the meetups, i'm not involved in.

Ah ok I thought you wanted to do another talk with me at another event... I involved you in everything concerning our plans with @winalab.

I attended the Vienna Meetup first before I decided to join the Hive and nobody forced me to do anything or asked for money - on the contrary, I was even invited for a drink and received help from all sides to get started. I experience the meetups as really nice get-togethers and non-Hivians were also present at several of these meetings and welcome. So please no "I heard something" stories, thx.

Who told you this? I never heard of anything regarding payment for participation. Did this happen to you?

Before I reply to your questions. I would like state that the following is my experience and opinion which I have formed. Others might have different outlook about it and I respect that. I am not trying to insult or offend any of you. 🙂

@stayoutoftherz and @vikisecrets thank you for the clarification. I am aware of the meetup term in general. The reality of the hive meetup is different than what you stated because the rules are set or rather pushed by the organizer. So when I was a newcomer I also thought everyone in hive has done a workshop; at least that is how it was presented to me. Kindly read my reply below to @solymi .

@digitalmike Now I have learnt that it depends who introduced you to hive. I can understand why you would think this is just another story. I raised the concern in the telegram group immediately after the meetup this month (2nd February). Anyone in the group can check the chat but here is the exact quote from the meetup organizer: "First workshop then Meetup it's always better to be first on hive with a buddy". And you can see in the chat that @solymi also opposed to such a statement. I appreciated that!

@solymi Yes, it has happened to me. It was when some of the Hive members were at the Block & Wine meetup. I was told by one of the Hive member that only a Hive-person can join the hive vienna meetup. Anyone can join hive for free but to be part of the community it is recommended that I take a workshop first (this conversation was in-person so no proof).

But here is the conversation from the chat with the same person after the Block & Wine meetup. I am using HiveP (hive person who talked with me for the first time) to keep that person anonymous. I can show you the chat when we meet as it is a private conversation.

[HiveP] Do you want to make a workshop with me?

[Me] hey, ya that would be cool! do you have time after lunch this weekend?

[HiveP] Yes.
When do you have time? The workshop is 50€. I will help you to setup your own blog/wallet and we will publish your introduction to the full Hive Community 😉

[Me] Shouldn't that information be publicly available? Sounds strange when you are charging for introduction to the Hive community. Well if it is paid, let's talk about in person at the meetup
(here it is Block&Wine meetup)

[HiveP] Yes you can also do it without my support. If you want to be visible to all the Hive community then you can invest a bit in a workshop... Your choice but I cannot help everyone for free...

[Me] thanks! will think about it

Under the above pretext I paid for the workshop for introduction to the hive blockchain and community. During the workshop I was added to the discord and telegram group, which was told to be an active community. However, it has been a few months and there is hardly any activity. Additionally, I was told that if I refer a friend to take this workshop, I will be offered a referral HBD.

In another Block & Wine meetup, I met few others who have a similar story. They were offered to take a workshop to get an exposure to the hive community. And since we were new-comers, we would have not known that there are other Hivians who voluntarily help new-comers to join hive.

Lastly, would like to add it is not about few euros paid for the workshop, but rather the reality of how hive was introduced to some people.

This is totally crazy! I strongly suggest to avoid any advice from that person [HiveP] for good! I am so sorry that you were tricked in such a fraudulent activity! I will do some extra upvotes for you to compensate a litte at least.

I am deeply shocked. I have no words.
This is so fucked up on so many levels I can't even contemplate.

I understand. If a workshop was offered, it seems obvious that paid counseling was offered. “Time is money” everyone knows. The event series Block & Wine is a commercial series of events aimed at doing business and enables transactions and networking between participants - even if the event itself is held free of charge. The fact that one or the other business offer was made in the course of such an event is therefore nothing unusual. Bundled first-hand knowledge is valuable - it was offered to you and you paid for it.

That it depends who introduces you to hive is true - as always in life - friends and some friendly communities are happy to help to a certain extend free of charge, but in everyday business you have to pay for services.

The question that arises is whether the service offered was proper provided, because then it's ok. You implied that things were promised that were not true or not kept. If that's the case, then of course that's not okay at all. So I suggest discussing this directly with the people involved. And if there are any issues you are now part of the community that has a lot of helping hands - as the others stated - there will be people helping you to compensate any loss.

It is still shady to ask for money knowing that the same service is available for free. This does not create trust, rather the opposite.
As you might know, @jerrybanfield tried something similar - and it ended not well for him...

I think if someone makes a fortune out of their wisdom and service, it's perfectly fine - if they don't do it by deceiving others.

Its shady to accuse someone here, without all the facts and perspectives involved. hive is such a complex project if you pay a workshop you have a clear view. It creates trust if you see the engament of the users building hive. I personally charge because I brought enough people in for free and now i have not much time to be awake all night answering questions from insulting comments as a well as providing facts.

Hi @digitalmike , my concern is that it was presented to me like taking the workshop would be the only possibility to be part of the community and to join the Hive meetups. If it is not presented like this, then I agree with paid workshops.

I'm with you - but more skepticism with such transactions would be appropriate - was there a written agreement, did you receive an invoice?

I got an invoice, regarding this formalities everything was fine. The only problem really was that it was told to me that the only possibility to attend the meetups would be through registering first through a paid workshop.

Then that is dubious and based on the presentation of false facts.

Hey there :)!

The only problem really was that it was told to me that the only possibility to attend the meetups would be through registering first through a paid workshop.

I can guess the answer, but I would like to see this clarified, so may i ask about who told you so?
Any information about who told the others to do so, too?

Any suggestions/ideas how to on-board a new person and introduce them to community without them taking a workshop?

If you need a Account or anything - let me know. Also working on solving the information problem btw., but guess this will take some more time.

That's not true if really @vikisecrets hold the general talk about hive and how it works. At the end of the presentation there was a link to the account creation token provided by @solymi. So you can check the presentation doc in one of vikis posts here.

@solymi I used @schmidi referral and joined ecency. We only had a short talk at Block & Wine and he did not mention the workshop.

Reason I agreed to take the workshop: When I had asked to HiveP at Block & Wine how can I join the hive meetup to learn more on hive and blogging. I was told that the hive meetup is for socializing rather than discussing technicals and it is better to take the workshop to get exposure to the community.

Because of the above explanation, I thought perhaps every new-comer has to take workshop so that they do not bother others of beginner questions at the hive meetup.

My experience still holds true.

@schlees Tagging you for reference since you also had questions about the sequence of events.

Thats true @manncpt told me that he can use my ref link :-) and yes of course everybody is welcome!

"I was told that the hive meetup is for socializing rather than discussing technicals and it is better to take the workshop to get exposure to the community." This is also true and in fact it's good to know the basics. So I understand what maybe @manncpt wanted to explain to you and maybe it was a missunderständig.

It's always HOW to communicate things like that. Nobody has to pay or to visit a workshop to come to a HIVE-Meet Up. The completly wrong way to build a community.

I am always telling newbies, who are interessted in blogging, just to start. I onboard them and tell them just blog and you will earn money. The rest will come step by step at the meet ups and with learning by doing. Thats why meets ups should have an official part where people can learn something.

Like @reiseamateur do it in Graz or @kvinna every firth Monday at her online HIVE Meet Ups at discord with different topics.

Also good to learn new stuff ...

Also Cryptoblogger Seminars like @manncpt did it all the years and he is still doing is also okay. But you have to communicate it in the right way. It's bullshit for me to take money for onboarding people and ...

But in fact and I hope that's clear now in this topic. For me it's important that there is a friendly conversation at the future Meet Ups. For me it's important to build in a serous way a Cryptoblogger HIVE Community to support the whole HIVE.

If we grow over the whole world. If you understand the ecosystem of HIVE you don't need to pay for edjucation or onboarding. You will earn much more money with building a community at all ... more more more money if you help people, show them the basics and how much fun it can be to blogg or play here in HIVE ... and to visit @hivefest with the community ...

Sorry for my bad English :-) I hope you understand what I mean ...

For me the topics also ends here ...

Happy HIVE happy LIFE

I am looking forward to your engagement with the DACH community onboarding german users! Have fun, I wish you the best for that big task. I always thought that the DACH discord server could be the perfect place for every newcomer. If you have then a user who needs especially me to introduce to Hive, just onboard the new user and send him to a @cryptobrunch workshop. I can do that also online in 1on1 zoom meetings... 😉

@schmidi I like your positive outlook, totally appreciate it!
In my opinion if a newcomer asks how can I attend the hive meetup? Answer is simple: Just provide the newcomer time, date, and location.

Do not give them a workshop sales pitch.

I learnt that meetups are free only after 2nd Feb. and the discussion of the last days on PeakD.

Yes Meet Ups are always free - feel free to invite Blogger or Nonblogger :-) It should be a nice place to talk about Crypto, HIVE, NFTs and co ;-) All for free sure ...

Lieber Christooph,

Danke ...

Be happy and keep always smiling
Happy HIVE - Happy LIFE

To @cryptopi: We had a talk at block and wine, were we presented the blockchain. You attended this event as well as several others here that's why I was wondering....https://peakd.com/meetup/@manncpt/presenting-the-hive-blockchain-cryptoblogging-nfts-and-games-at-block-and-wine-prasentation-der-hive-blockchain-krypto-bloggen- @solymi, @vikisecrets and I told you that there is a way to get a hive account for free. You got it. @solymi shared his account creation token. I offered you a @cryptobrunch workshop as well as others there like @kseniswelt. You took it and we manged together a good start on hive with intro and welcome post of mine at the Edison Cafe https://peakd.com/meetup/@manncpt/cryptoblogger-workshop-with-cryptopi314 Everything was fine... Since then you attended three #HiveMeetupVienna events where I payed for your nice @hivebuzz badge and you got every time as well a payout from the invitaions... I even deligated you on top 50HP and supported all your post with my private account and cryptoblogger telegram group. Now you dont mention the organizer who brough you in... looks like a little defamation in total... When I would have known this reaction I would have asked someone else. That's why I unfollowed you as you did. You are still invited to join us on Thursday to come back to peace and find maybe a happy ending in the community.

I am immensely sorry that you and other newbies were ripped off so outrageously.
Hive is free for everyone to use. Also, no one is expected to purchase Hive or HBD.
