Fungi Friday. Mushrooms near the terrace

| Hello, friends! The mushrooms shown in these photos grew right next to my terrace — just a few centimeters from the house. They appeared near some old cherry stumps that we use as decorative “seats” — simply round logs from chopped firewood that serve as stools in our yard. And it was right beside these cherry wood rounds that the mushrooms sprouted. They grow incredibly fast: I first noticed them small in the evening, and by the next morning they looked just like in the photos. By evening, they had already overgrown — some even turned black. So essentially, their entire life cycle seems to last just one day. I’ve never seen anything like it! I tried identifying them with Google Lens, but the results were inconsistent — the app suggested Psathyrella, Clitocybe, or Inocybe depending on which photo I used: one result for a mushroom in my hand, another when photographed on the ground, and yet another when shown in a cluster. Eventually, I settled on the most frequently suggested option: Psathyrella candolleana — also known as Candolle’s Brittlestem. It’s considered conditionally edible (or at least non-toxic), although most of the other possibilities were poisonous — not exactly reassuring, especially with small children often playing nearby. These mushrooms have now appeared twice this summer beside the same stumps, and both times their full development and disappearance happened in just one day. Fascinating species, isn’t it? | Привіт, друзі! Гриби, зображені на цих фотографіях, росли просто біля моєї тераси, буквально за кілька сантиметрів від будинку. Вони з’явилися біля старих черешневих пеньків, які ми використовуємо як декоративні "стільці" — це просто кругляки дерева, з яких колють дрова, але в нашому випадку вони стояли як сидіння. І саме біля цих черешневих кругляків виросли гриби. Ростуть вони дуже швидко: я помітив їх ще маленькими ввечері, а вже зранку наступного дня вони були такими, як на фото. До вечора ж — переросли, деякі навіть почорніли. Тобто, можна сказати, що повний життєвий цикл цих грибів триває лише добу. Я такого ще не бачив! Я спробував ідентифікувати ці гриби за допомогою Google Об'єктива, але результати були суперечливими: програма видавала різні варіанти — чи то Psathyrella, чи Clitocybe, чи Inocybe. Все залежало від того, яке саме фото я обирав: якщо гриб на долоні — один результат, якщо на землі — інший, якщо вони ростуть колонією — ще інший. У результаті, я зупинився на варіанті, який найчастіше з’являвся в ідентифікації: Psathyrella candolleana — сатарела Кандолля. Це гриб, який вважається умовно їстівним (або неотруйним), хоча всі інші знайдені варіанти здебільшого були отруйними — а це, погодьтеся, не дуже приємно, особливо якщо врахувати, що біля тераси часто бігають малі діти. Ці гриби вже двічі з'являлися цього літа біля тих самих пеньків. І обидва рази — за один день повністю проходили свій розвиток і зникали. Цікавий гриб, чи не так? |

I guess I was only lucky in the sense that I managed to take photos of the mushrooms 😄. Other than that, I wasn’t too happy about it, because I wasn’t sure whether they were poisonous or not — and as I mentioned in the post, I have a small son who puts everything in his mouth.
