Waterfalls West of Revelstoke
There is a wealth of nature found in the Revelstoke area. Nestled in the heart of interior British Columbia in Canada, there are endless wonders. Water cascades off the Selkirk and Monashees mountain ranges down in to the Columbia River - the same one that eventually makes its way through Portland Oregon. In a previous post I shared photos of our trip up Mount Revelstoke this one will focus on the valley.
Mountain roads like these are common in the bush. You would want a vehicle with at least all wheel drive and good tires to get to even the less remote places. A 4 x 4 is a must for some of the better places as these roads are frequently washed out. Watch out for logging trucks and cyclists. The scenery is very green as Revelstoke is the middle of a temperate rainforest.
To get to West Revelstoke you have to cross the Columbia river. The main town is located on the Eastern bank and there is a large dam just north of town. This is the only bridge across the River and it's part of the Trans-Canada highway. Smoke from forest fires made the views less impressive but the city is surrounded by mountains for hundreds of kilometers in every direction.
Begbie falls is down a short trail from the end of the road. It's about a kilometer walk down into the valley. There are camping spots and great views of the river. So many parks exist in the area we will have to go back next year to explore more. Nothing makes us happier than being in a green forest surrounded by water.
A little north of Begbie falls are Moses falls, there's more impressive cascades and waterfalls in the area but we were short on time trying to make the most of the day. When in places like these you forget about time and want to take in it all. The best part about it all is that these are free to access and will be around for future generations to enjoy.
