There was a time in my life when I would obsess over lovers, over words we might share, over futures neither divulged nor developed yet already thoroughly arranged in my mind. Madly in love was I with an idea that I believed might absolve me of a lifetime of shame and injustice, blind to the truth that I'd made it all up. Broken-hearted, I once wandered blind.

And then, suddenly, always, there was you.

You big wild world and all your big wild faces, immaculate places. Forever I waited for someone to save me, delighted am I that it should be you. Head over heels I've fallen, onto your soft earth and jagged rocks, against your great towering trees, down your hillsides in your downpours, asleep in the heat of your late day sun. I wake up and long for you, go to bed aching in ecstacy from climbing all over you. No longer blind and no longer broken, I breathe, smell, feel, fly through your elements, your abundance of life. I see the light, and where you have put it within me. Where it has been all along.

Taken away from you when I was so young, how can I ever come home in one lifetime?
