the Crow Lady's guide to getting a Eurasian Jay to get a restraining order against you
You have no idea how beautiful you are.
Or maybe you do...
My heart pounds as I catch sight of you. Hidden in the bushes, I gape and stare.
You are unaware.
If you see me seeing you, will you take my admiration as predation? Will you go away forever?
Don't go away forever.
Don't go away!
Stay! I love you.
Say you love me, too.
Don't leave.
Don't leave me.
Wait!
Please.
It was meant to be. I will take care of you. Follow you to the ends of the earth. Through brush and bramble, forest and sky.
You and I.
Stay. Let me write you bad poetry and feed you fresh peanuts.
Sing your praise.
For days.
And days.
Oh you, most beautiful of jays.

All the stuff (pictures, words, etc.) I put in this post and any of my other posts is mine (unless otherwise stated) and can't be used by anyone else unless the Eurasian Jay and I say it's ok. It's not likely the Jay will be ok with any of this, though.
Sounds familiar!
I was thinking the other day that I hadn't heard/seen much from you recently, and then I remembered it was September, and that you might be on your travels again. I also remembered one of the things that you wanted to see while on said travels... and then I log on today to see you actually managed to find one - A Eurasian Jay!
I'm super impressed by the way, but I shouldn't really have doubted you, you are the Crow Lady of course!
er well you actually managed to get some shots so the Jay must have been happy, and sensed a kindred spirit nearby... or maybe she was just being polite!
Thank you! It still feels pretty incredible that I was able to get a shot, especially considering how elusive people say they are that live amongst them. I will eventually have to return to parts of Europe to get some better shots, and of rooks, too. I managed to catch some rooks in flight but they were way overhead at dusk. I want to see them behaving like the "seed crows" they are! I can't remember, are there rooks in the UK? I have dreams of backpacking there with Pilot.
Honestly considering I've been looking on and off for the last 10 years and have only seen them on 3 separate occasions, and only one of those times was I able to get any pictures... the fact that you got pics on first attempt is pretty awesome
and I'm a little jealous of your luck!....
Rooks are much more common, and are not as shy as the Jay... i've seen them several times (farmland is good for those)
There are 8 species of Corvid in the UK - link here
I have seen all eight, but the Chough, the Raven and the Hooded Crow I've only seen a couple of times each as they are best seen in the west of the country in wild places, and I live in the East. If you follow that link above and click on each species page, it will show a generic map that'll give you a vague idea of where you can see each species... for research purposes of course for when you travel over here ;-)
That's an awesome link, thanks @dannewton!
Oh man, at the Baltic Sea in Germany I saw a blackbird and almost shit my pants because I thought it was a chough at first. Imagine what a mess there would have been if it had been a chough.
I wanna see yourasian jay picture!!
I got photos of the Eurasian Magpies, but they look almost identical to the magpies we have here so I didn't have any heart attacks or unexpected bowel movements over the photos.
These are beautiful and curious birds.
So beautiful!! I wish I'd had more time to spend with her.
Thanks @outdoor.life!
