Orca with a Boner
I always dreamed of getting a full-body shot of a whale, but never did I envision such a literal realization.
When you and your family are trying to eat but the people on shore want a show.
Photos taken from the banks of San Juan Island, Washington, looking out on Haro Strait. The whales got no closer than about quarter mile, and from that distance no weiner would have been discernable with the naked eye. Most of my time was spent watching and not photographing, and there were only two incidents of breaches that I observed during the approximate hour that the pod was fishing in that area. This was one of them. As such, I consider these sexy orca poster boy pinups to be some of my luckiest shots to date.
Tools used: Nikon D7500 in bad need of a tune up, Sigma 600mm lens, sunburn, little dog, right place, right time.

Love Nikon... 😜 I wake up and I see a killer whale, I rub my eyes. Yes, I am awake. I've been locked up for many days, today I'm going out and although it's not by my will, I feel lucky.
Locked up?? For illness or naughtiness?
Does Nikon have a reputation? I only got mine because my friend loooooves them and talked it up and I didn't feel like researching. I don't know if it's falling apart because I've used it so much or if I am negligent in how I take care of it. Maybe both. I like it all right, though, except for this weird random overexposure thing it's been doing recently and the fact that the viewscreen in broken for no reason other than to be broken.
Maybe it is already at the limit of its useful life, have you counted the number of shots to see how many it is going for? (me gusta mucho Nikon)

Huh. So I did it, and according to my shutter count, my camera is having a midlife crisis.
Thanks, that makes me feel better about its condition. I'm kinda proud of myself that I use it so much. It's taught me soooo much.
Probably still a little excited from his last yacht attack. I for one wholly support and praise our new Orca overlords.
I can't wait for them to evolve their own version of thumbs.
Great timing obtaining amazing shots!
Massive animals raising out the water is impressive.

Thank you! It is pretty amazing how they do it. I wonder how that feels, taking a quick dip in the air?
"What's up there?" Oh shit no crazy...., deep dive, gotta get out of here!
LOL! "Let's see if humans stopped messing up the planet yet. Nope ok gotta go!"
🤣 got that right....
How did you manage to take such an exclusive and unique shot?? I told you before, that you should apply to NATGEO...
Aww, thanks, pal. I'm thinking of at least sending it to the local whale research center that studies this pod in case they are short on orca dickpics...
Awwww... "Orca shots"... An opportunity well taken!... Awesome photos @corvidae friend!!!... WOW!
haaaa haaaa haaaa :) ¡Nice!

Thanks, friend! The better shot, the one I didn't take, was the orca that breached in the direct reflection of the sunlight on the water, a silhouette burned forever into my memory.
haha. Def. jumped after the action. LOL.
That's a cool shot.
Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't sure it would come out, and definitely wasn't expecting that.
