With The Bridge Brigade

Was introduced to a group here by the name of Sharp Objects 502 a little while back, they've been doing a bit of organizing and demonstrating in Louisville for just under a year. Had taken photos at a couple community meetups and a 'ICE Out For Good' protest they were involved with already, but yesterday I finally managed to make it out with their Bridge Brigade.

The brigade has been staging protests, holding signs and hanging banners from bridges over the highways during rush hour. Caught up with them yesterday evening on the bridge in Seneca Park, out towards the east end of town.

There'd originally been one scheduled for a week ago, but with everything still encased in snow and ice, it'd been canceled. Yesterday the weather was downright springlike and the worst of the snow had melted, so a pop-up protest got called on short notice.

Even with the short notice, the 'Love>Hate' event still managed to bring together about fifty folks on the bridge.

Wasn't sure what to expect going in, but was pleasantly surprised, both by the turnout and the response to it. Over the years I've been to quite a few protests, you always get at least a few people that honk as they drive past, but yesterday was something else entirely.

A considerable portion of the evening commute was honking, waving, flashing their lights as they drove past, everything from the semis and commercial vehicles down to minivans and Mini Coopers.

Several people there spoke of how reaffirming it was to be out and see how many others were not okay with what's happening in this country.

The regime's shock & awe campaign and heavy handed tactics appear calculated to engender a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. Thing is, as Malcolm X said, "we aren't outnumbered, we're out organized."

The Bridge Brigade was out to remind people of that.

The regime is already kidnapping people here, albeit on a smaller scale than in Minneapolis, but Louisville isn't waiting on an occupation to get organized.
