The Bean

Chicago is my new favorite place for street photography. I'm rather fond of Louisville, but nobody here walks or takes public transit anywhere if they can help it, which makes street photography a bit more challenging.

The Windy City has a much larger population (3rd in the nation) and much more of a sense of this is a place where things are happening. Then there's the Cloud Gate. . .

It's not really much of a gate, more a shiny thing the locals just call The Bean. Perched in Millennium Park since the Dubya years, it's rather reflective of downtown Chicago.

Rather reflective of everything, actually. I'd been aware of the sculpture well before setting foot in Chicago, but had been rather underwhelmed by it. Seeing it in person changed all that.

So many fun reflections and an abundance of folks not paying the least bit of attention to my camera made me not want to leave. Could have spent hours days just posted up playing with the reflections and shooting all the sightseers. The underside was even more wild than the rest of it.

Were too many other things to see and shoot in Chicago for me to do that, but if you happen to find yourself on the shore of Lake Michigan, you should wander over and check it out. Anyone else have a bit of art that doubles as their happy hunting ground for street photography?

Looks like a fun place for photographers and not only. Just like you, I think I could stay there all day, exploring every angle and take photos all day.
