Welp, guess Lenco BearCats get to join drones and circling helicopters on the list of things that make me inexplicably, irrationally angry. Thanks 2020. And you too, Greg Fischer.
They weren't there to see me, had to grab my camera and see if there was some shots to be had. Curiously enough, the BearCat (the black armored police vehicle) is sitting where the events described in this post happened.
I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. Tried to get a shot of SWAT making entry but LMPD had the streets blocked off and couldn't find me an angle to view it from. Wonder who that cop pissed off? Getting to guard the rear exit solo just seems like a punishment detail. Not to mention a good way for things to go sideways in a hurry.
When they stormed my neighbor's house a few years ago, they made entry through the back door. This time around, there wasn't a good line of sight to even be able to tell where they were busting in.
Whole thing took less than twenty minutes to unfold, seemed like half the block had come out to watch. This went down yesterday, ever since I've kept an eye on the news but there's been not a peep about what was going on. One thing was certain though, somebody was having the worst Monday of their life.
That's one scary landscape to see in front of your house :(
It does get the adrenaline pumping a bit. Doesn't help that many of the most insane, intense experiences of my life have involved that BearCat. I take it that's not a common sight out front of your house?
Sure not. And I really hope I won't get to see this during my stay on this planet, although I am a bit reserved with the hopes having the war between Russia and Ukraine for so many reasons at the border with Romania.
May the Force be with you! Since 9/11 at the very least, the police here have been getting steadily more militarized, and with that this sort of scene has become much more normalized, I'm afraid this will not be the last I see of it. This was just the local police, not even the federal goon squads that's been hogging the press of late.

Always suprised to see that contrast of police force in the US and here in my Country . Most cops here don't cary a firearm at all.
If you were to take the number of guns held by all the militaries of the world, add to it the number of guns in law enforcement hands the world over, and then double that number, you still wouldn't have as many guns as are in civilian hands here. It's so interesting talking to y'all in Europe about policing, wish we had it like you do but the cops here wouldn't be caught dead without a gun. Or rather they're convinced that's how they'd end up if they didn't have a firearm at all times. While they've always had guns, since 9/11 they've added so much military gear that they seem more and more like an occupation force every day.
Those Bearcats really signal the total militarization of the modern police state like nothing else short of a literal tank or Striker AFV.
They're nearly as heavily armored as a Stryker, pretty sure they can mount a remote weapon station if they needed to, so yeah, I think militarization is just about complete. Can't help but chuckle a bit though, with all their toys they can't help but do everything the COIN manuals tell you not to.
We can't even hold cops to the standards of a military occupation, to say nothing of their self-proclaimed service and honor ethos.

It's exactly like this: when the police come like this and we come back, similar thoughts come to our minds that there hasn't been any major problem.
Man, I just wish there weren't any major problems.
It's like nothing I've ever seen. In my neighborhood, we get worked up when we see low-flying helicopters, signalling police are on the lookout for someone.
These are great, depressing shots. Any idea what the target was supposed to have done? I presume the police had a warrant? Or not?
Just stunning. Something out of a movie, except it's real.
The low-flying helicopters (and drones) stalked us in 2020, got to where I could identify LMPD's helicopter by sound alone, which probably has something to do with my reaction to them now.
I wanted to get closer, for some better closeups but right as I come out of the house with the camera an unmarked car pulled up and blocked the street. I've kept checking all the local news outlets but there's been absolutely nothing about it, so can't really say what it was about or whether there was a warrant. Was initially worried that it was ICE but once I got a better look at them realized it was just LMPD up to their usual hijinks. Did seem out of character for them to announce themselves like that, the raid I watched out my kitchen window a few years ago didn't announce themselves beforehand.
Wish it was a movie, didn't need the extra adrenaline.
