Shaking Down In Shakertown

There's a time warp down in central Kentucky, you head for Harrodsburg and make a few wrong turns and you can't miss it. Officially, it's the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, but the locals just call it Shakertown.

The Shakers were a religious group that lived communally here from the early 1800s up until 1910. Back in the 1960s they started restoring their village and now you can stay in the same buildings the Shakers lived in.

Snuck away from Louisville for a couple nights, it's hard to find a quiet retreat for a little R&R within easy driving distance but Shakertown fits the bill. We've made the trip a few times now, think we were both looking forward to moving at a slower pace for a bit.

Somehow that still managed to turn into my partner getting 20k steps on their pedometer. Don't know what that is in miles but my legs say it's enough. Hiked a trail the Shakers had carved out way back in 1826 to get to their landing down on the Kentucky River.

Much of the trail you felt like you were walking along the edge of a cliff. For good reason. Had some lovely views though, and the spring wildflowers were in full bloom along the trail. The River Road trail connected up with the Palisades trail once you got down close to the river, it had all sorts of surprises. An old riverboat, a waterfall, deer skeleton, turkey vulture wing, and even a slow moving snake.

Our bellies eventually got the better of us and we had to slither back up the hill for some vittles.

Had a run-in with the dinosaur on the security detail here, but he backed down after I threatened to turn him into a hot brown.

The sun may have set on the Shakers, but in Shakertown they're still keeping those days alive.

Me gusta la simetría y el color de las fotos, vivido, destacando lo natural incluso de un edificio, me gustó mucho la primera y la última, un gran contraste.
