Made Famous By Others
Washington DC is famous for lots of things. These aren't those things. It's still Tuesday somewhere so I thought I'd do a Three Tune Tuesday but I'm fresh out of music related photos.
Well, almost. This guy convinced me to go with cover tunes today but he neglected to mention how to tie that in with a random collection of photos from DC last year. I've always been a sucker for a good cover song, especially when an artist takes a tune and makes it their own. These all fall in that category, I've come to almost prefer them over the originals.
First up is Roy Buchanan doing Hey Joe. Always loved Hendrix's version although even that is a cover. While exploring a Wikipedia rabbit hole last week I happened to discover Roy Buchanan. He was a contemporary of Jimi's and one hell of a guitar player as well but never achieved the same level of recognition or success. If you enjoyed that, it's part of a longer 'Live at Austin' set, should be perfect for melting out on your next visit to Psychedelia.
Growing up, I thought I hated country music. Eventually realized it was the manufactured Nashville bullshit that I couldn't stand. Always made an exception for outlaw country though. Metal is more my thing, so when I stumbled upon James Hetfield and friends doing Don't you think this outlaw bit has done got out of hand? I knew I'd hit the jackpot. Don't know how he managed to get invited to a CMT tribute concert but I think he may have accidentally invented heavy metal country. Unfortunately, this seems to have been a one-off. Unless Metallica decides to do a country album, Hank III will have to do for you heavy metal country fix.
Bruce Springsteen's 'Ghost of Old Tom Joad' was one of those songs that always stuck with me. He did it acoustic but Rage Against The Machine went electric with it and took it to a whole new level. The official video for it would have been keeping with the live performance theme I seem to have going but that old fan made video was far too eerily relevant for me to pass up. It's well past midnight so that's probably enough, drop me a comment and let me know what you think of the tunes.
The guy with the blue is so cute😊. I listened what you mentioned and they were so noisy :)
Ha, yeah, he was really enjoying himself. 🤣 Noisy indeed. I like it loud, forgot others might not be accustomed to that.
the last photo is very good, there are some decorations around the pool, really like to see it..
Thank you!
Nice shots! The penguin with the glass background caught my eyes of course... The photo of the building is amazing, and so is the train track. I'm trying to figure out the vantage point.
In the last shot, I like that you kept the details of the greenery on the right, which is soft, yet still pronounced.
I can see Jamaican in the body language of that singer😆
Thank you! Ha, I wish that was a penguin in the shot :) The train track is in a Metro (subway) station, there's concourses that cross over the tracks, I was shooting down from one of those. All of these were done with a wide angle lens, makes for some different perspectives. Honestly you put more thought into that last photo than I ever did. It's a garden in the back of the Smithsonian's HQ, that shot was just the one that came closest to capturing the peaceful tranquility of back there.
Lol, he was having a grand old time. This is some b&w shots of him I posted last year.
Haha! I meant pigeon 🤣
Wow, those were some cool shots

I LOVE his shadow reflection in this active shot 👍.
Hey there! I loved your Three Tune Tuesday post. I've always been a fan of cover songs, too. I've never heard Roy Buchanan's version of "Hey Joe," but I'll definitely check it out. I also love James Hetfield's cover of "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Has Done Got Out of Hand?" It's so unexpected and awesome. And Rage Against the Machine's cover of "Ghost of Old Tom Joad" is just incredible. Thanks for sharing these great tunes!
I'd never heard of Roy Buchanan until last week but that track blew me away. Ha, yeah, I don't know what I was expecting when I saw 'Hetfield goes country' but it wasn't that.
Thanks for dropping by and checking them out!
