Let This Abomination Unto The Lord Begin!

A year or two ago, while browsing a local thrift shop something just jumped out at me, begging to buy it. Was a bag of Barbies, a half dozen for $5, and the temptation was just too much. Came home with them and in the months since, have been acquiring more as well as other children's toys.

Got a dremel and a hot glue gun too, and before you could say "WTF?" I was in the abomination business. Growing up, you were in big trouble if you got caught 'destroying' your toys, but they always seemed like they'd be a lot more fun if you could just do a little rearranging.

The secondhand toy market has gone to hell in a handbasket here lately, everybody's wanting to charge vintage prices, so the Dollar Tree has been having to supplement my supplies. Not the end of the world, and once you throw in some seasonal decorations and the occasional bit of obsolete electronics, you've got everything you need to make some righteous abominations.

Been making them for my own amusement more than anything else, and perhaps the discomfort of unwary viewers. Gave a few as gifts this past Christmas, don't think my father quite knew what to do with his five headed baby doll. My partner knitted clothes for them as a present for me, finally got around to doing a photo shoot.

It's sometimes hard to get them all to cooperate for photos, but if the weather will ever cooperate, we're going to have to take a field trip outside and see where the story goes.

There's plenty more in addition to these, but we're still working on getting them to be less camera shy.

These are really cool! I agree the second hand stores are crap now, I used to thrift all my clothes in the 90s and now it's almost the same price to just buy them new 😒

Thank you! I've about given up on them, it's kind of obnoxious, going thrifting used to be how me and my broke friends entertained ourselves. The place that I got the Barbies used to be awesome, especially for toys, would just throw a bunch in a bag and charge four or five bucks for it. The aging neighborhood shopping mall that it's in recently got put up for sale, so they closed and then reopened as a consignment shop. . .pretty much the same merchandise but now 10x the price. Good to know that the thrift shops going to hell isn't just a local phenomenon. 😀

Oh yeah I think it's the same everywhere 😭 I used to buy vintage leather jackets and cool clothes for so cheap, now resellers snap up all the good stuff and the thrift shops charge 10$ for a threadbare tshirt, I miss the treasure hunt!
