Just Messin' Round
Seriousness is seriously overrated. As the postcard that arrived in the mail today said, the supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out alive. It may all be going to hell in a handbasket, but the smell of brimstone hasn't gotten too loud to keep you from enjoying yourself now.
Been enjoying some 'cameras in unusual places' expeditions, taking my Nikon along to places you wouldn't ordinarily thing of taking photos. One particular favorite has been the interstate, riding shotgun and shooting out the window as roll down the highway. One of these days I'll remember to clean the windows beforehand.
Don't get to ride shotgun much, usually I'm behind the wheel and naturally that's when I see things I want photos of. Highways always seem to have a unique perspective on the places they're passing through, been itching to take photos from them for a while now. Still experimenting with it, figuring out what works and what doesn't, what gear is necessary, just messin' around. It's been quite fun, seems nobody is expecting the Spanish Inquisition a street photographer on the highway.
The brutalist sculptures that are our highway infrastructure are another fun spot to bring a camera, at least when it's flooded. When the aliens show up, they're going to think we worship the automobile, with the reflections off the floodwaters they just seem like giant monuments to the internal combustion engine.
Alright, who else has some peculiar places they like to mess around with a camera at?
Sending you an Ecency vote! 👍😊✨
I really like how you show that beauty can be found in unexpected places, even along the highway. It’s such a refreshing perspective on photography and life in general!
Beauty is all around us, if we look for it :) Plus the highways have been taunting me, daring me to photograph them for years.
I couldn't tell that the first one was shot from the highway! It's not a place where I'd expect beauty.
But it is a place where you can see weird things happening. I have various dashcam scenes of people risking their life on the highway which I still need to process: cyclists, families traveling on horse-drawn carts and cars overtaking through the middle of a busy two-lane highway (all in places where that was legal).
The first one wasn't shot from the highway, just a newly built pedestrian causeway. When I started writing this it was a more general 'unusual places' theme, to shoot from that spot had previously require wading through muck. Hadn't realized until I was writing how much the highway was involved :)
So much weird things happening, so much madness. Not too long ago, I was passing someone on the highway and my partner noticed they were their phone using the calculator while driving. Not sure what sort of calculation is so important that you have to do it while driving 75 mph.
Very good shots and good reflections captured @coloneljethro thanks for sharing with us!

Love this! Just messin' around is really the best way to discover new perspectives.😍
Honestly, I'm not sure if I know any other way to discover them 😆
I think the best discoveries always come when you’re not looking too hard, just letting things unfold naturally.🤗
Beauty is everywhere, and your photographs are the proof. I loved all of them. And totally agree, seriousness is overrated.
Thank you!
