Another Fucking Name
Have a habit of periodically checking the local news throughout the day, see if there's anything happening that might call for me to take photos.
Friday before last, March 27th, was prepping my gear for No Kings 3.0 the next day when it popped up on the local news that LMPD was conducting a 'critical investigation' in the east end of Louisville.
That's never good news, 'critical investigation' is policespeak for 'we just shot somebody.' Details are usually slow to trickle out and LMPD's characterization of events has a tendency to be contradicted by video evidence.
In this case, LMPD was responding to a call of a woman experiencing a mental health crisis. They found Katelyn Hall, a 28 year old black woman, locked in a bathroom, whereupon they forced their way in and shot and killed her.
LMPD turned around and claimed that she'd charged officers with a "large, sharp object," but it took until this past Friday for the bodycam footage to be released.
The footage showed that she'd been shot for the 'crime' of holding a piece of porcelain and far too quickly to have a chance of making anything resembling a charge.
In 2020, during the long, hot summer of the Breonna Taylor protests here, one of the regular chants was "I don't want to say another fucking name!"
On Saturday, just shy of the six year anniversary of the beginning of those protests, folks gathered once again in Injustice Square Park to say another fucking name.
Another young black woman gunned down in her own home. A human being who was in need of care and help but got hollowpoints instead.

Honestly, the USA just gets worse and worse
Is it getting worse or just masking less? Some days it feels like its not getting worse so much as it never really changed and it's just hiding that fact less. Even the latest war feels halfway like a rerun, except with more ego and less thought.
Probably both. The fact that the US has dropped all pretense at decency is part of what makes it worse
