A Walk In The Park

Weather's been nice, too nice to stay inside. Decided a little hunting was just the thing, loaded up the Nikon with the long lens and headed for Iroquois Park. The park is basically a 725 acre hill, covered in forest. Well, except for the golf course and sportsball courts.

Didn't even make it all the way to the park before someone stopped me for a street portrait. Lately that's been a recurring feature of my photo outings, if this keeps happening it may turn into its own thing.

There's an overlook in the park where you can look north and see downtown and much of Louisville laid out below you. That was my nominal destination but getting there called for climbing the stairway to heaven. It's not the official stairway to heaven but if you have a heart condition it'll work just as well.

This is why we can't have nice things. At least if you get trashed and get lost, you can always follow the alcoholic breadcrumb trail back to the liquor store.

No Dumping! Still not sure if someone dumped the sign there or if it's just lost.

The aforementioned overlook. With the right eyes or a decent lens you can see Indiana from there. It's a pretty popular spot, the people and bird watching can be as nice as the view.

No visit to the overlook is complete without stopping to take a moment to give thanks to Big Brother for all his love and attention. Or at least snap a photo. LMPD even keeps their cavalry unit stationed in the park, just in case you need a more forceful reminder of Big Brother's love.

Note to self: Windy days = less haze. Had a wind advisory in effect for this walk in the park, by far the least hazy of all my visits here. That large structure in the middle of the photo is Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. To give you some sense of scale, those tall buildings are downtown, roughly nine miles away from the overlook.

Took the back way down the hill, hoping to get away from the people and maybe shoot some deer. No such luck, was all people and no deer. You could almost say they were robin me of photo opportunities.

The walks are certainly excellent moments to take some pictures, I would say that you get very spontaneous and curious results. The first picture is my favorite!

They are nice for that :) Spontaneous and curious, I like it, thank you! Ha, I wasn't sure what I was expecting to see once I got to the top of the hill but it wasn't that first shot.
