Ben in the Box

This is my first round with the light box and threw this 1949-D Franklin Half Dollar in it for the first try. I didn't break out my regular camera yet and only used my outdated iPhone SE to take and crop the photos. I used the black background for all the shots throughout.

The light definitely brings out the smuge marks on the edges. I did not even notice those before. I tried experimenting with the light levels some this time around, but not much. I will for sure work with the light levels more next time around. I think I was still a little too bright. What do you think?

I do know the pictures look better than the ones I have done in the past. It is just going to take some practice. It is also going to take a place in my house where this stuff can be setup because the dining room table will not cut it very long. You all know that.

I even changed the angle to see what that would look like. Wasn't too bad I guess. Seems to bring out the bell lines more maybe. What are your thoughts?

The light box has an opening at the top allowing pics to be taken from that angle as well. It seems this angle allowed me to pick up some more smudges across the middle of the coin. I tried taking one of old Ben lying flat, but the glare and lighting was horrible no matter what I did. I still have work and practice for that shot I guess.

Always looking for tips to improve, so if you have any, please leave them.

Thanks for reading,

Nice! It does give you a lot more light to view the coin and see the details. Nicely done. Now you just have to find it a home before your wife finds one for it!
!LOL

I am hoping using a regular camera next time will help improve things. Yeah, the dining room table is a mess again. Gotta get it cleaned up before the wife decides to.

I'm not used to an iPhone myself but I'm sure you can make them sharper now that you use the light box. I'm currently looking at some tutorials for my phone as well because my phone is cluttered with AI learning gone wrong (haha) and where I used to have cool macro even with bad light, it's not working anymore.

My advice, go to YT and find some tutorials for your phone camera and you will get even better results. Curious to see the next ones that you share!

Good luck :)

Looking better considering that the whole coin is in a matte-like finish and the reflectivity of silver tends to diffuse light making it difficult to capture details. I'm still using a 3 Luxo-lamp configuration of lighting with cool CHFs, and a warm CHF lamp. And it takes over most of the dining room table.
It is practice, and trial and error until I got a good result.

Appreciate your feedback. Trial and error is what I think it is going to take for me as well with the different lighting options.

Greetings @coinjoe ,

It is definately picking up the details beautifully....and the Silver is reading loud and clear in photograph number two.

Kind Regards,
