Stroll of the week in Melbournes Docklands for Wednesday Walk
Hello friends of Hive. I would like to share with you a walk through Melbourne.
Melbourne is a place I've come to vacation for a month, but I rarely go on walks. So you know there must have been a treat around the corner from me to get on the free trams on this midday to reach Docklands. As the name of the city suggests it’s a place were the boats are. A land known for ferry rides and chain of restaurants. Blue skys and view as far as the eye can see.
Took a stroll around the cement side, where the boats normally are anchored. I’ve come to this same spot two winters ago, but I had noticed only the windy chills and people grabbing gelato. 🍧
This time it felt different than the last because summers here. Isn’t it crazy that the Australian seasons can change opposite to India. Though it fascinates me to see the sunny weather and bright skies while the people are out in the open and jackets removed.
I got to see some trucks too, selling coffees and toasts. As you can see I absolutely adored the way the toasted truck looked. Told my mom to stand beside it to capture a few memories. The next truck sold hand crafted coffee.
The truck was named ‘coffee and crepe’s’.
I couldn’t stop myself from flashing my camera. I got two shots, before I could take a third. I heard a knock from within. I was startled.
I wasn’t sure how to react, all I could think about was that the owner was shooing me off. I was just about to turn and leave.
The owner came from behind the truck and greeted me. He spoke about his coffees while I listened, my brain kept telling me to introduce myself and that I’m a coffee planter from India.
Sadly I did not have a sample of my special beans to share it with him and give him a whiff from our packet. Though I couldn’t share my beans I definitely shared a conversation. He soon pointed at the QR code on the truck and asked me to follow him.
The words ‘Made with Love’ resonated with me because I have a brand called Coffee n Love.
And coffee on wheels is a great concept.
We decided to take a rest stop by the dock. Also it was getting late for our lunch so we had to quickly walk through and pick a restaurant in which we would like to eat. We are 4-5 hours early from the Indian time. Having a late breakfast and living the jet legged life was quite the challenge.
This is what I got to see as we kept walking towards the lunch spot. I don’t even know how to describe this piece of art. If you have any idea what it is, do let me know in the comments.
The trees were lined up and was in perfect shape, the wind started to get more aggressive, the chills brushed on our faces. Wasn’t sure if we were just getting hungrier or the weather was getting worse. But as I looked up, the birds would fly over us and the clouds looked gloomy and the sky was getting slight grey. The gulls would come by any area with food around so I knew I was getting closer to our destination.
Soon I saw big bright red and white umbrellas across the dock. There was a big building with glass windows all around. The door on one side was closed so we thought the place was shutting. The waiter girl called us in with a smile. Our faces brightened up as we knew this would be it.
The place was adorned with violet flowers and yellowish orange bushes. The bees were filled in them. Hence I captured the photos from a distance.
She asked us if we wanted to be seated inside the building or outside in the sun with umbrellas and birds all around. As perfect as the outside was, we just wanted to stay away from the gulls picking from our plate.
We then grabbed a bottle of Carton Beer that was brewing by themselves. As she served the beer the froth looked like a cloudy mess. But the fizzy bubbles soon made up for it.
You must be wondering what is this magnificent place called! Wink wink
‘Berth’ was the Mediterranean restaurant overlooking the waterfront. The outdoor seating apparently had a fireplace that I dint know. The skyline with the fancy menu was to make full use of. Feasting our eyes on every single glimpse. The shrill sounds of the gulls and gushing wind. As we fixed our vision on the Victoria Harbour, the waiter came to take our order.
It was past 4:00, out of all the options available the only one which we wanted was gonna be the last dish the chef would cook.
Yah, it was ‘Fish and Chips’.
A squeeze of lemon on the crispy fishy coating made it tangy. The sour sauce added to the flavour. The chips were slender and salty. We indeed relished it.
The beer sips brought out the inner gut bubbles. 🫧
Burps released and the body was now at ease. I felt like something was missing. Needed another dish to satisfy our desire. So we paired it with calamari.
They come along with Rocket Leaves and a white sauce on the bottom. It wasn’t my first calamari in Melbourne but this one is my favourite. The soft bites and jumbo sided squid was delicately cooked and we would feel it with each bite. It indeed was a chefs kiss dish! 💋
A week earlier there was a Melbourne Boat Show. Many people were participating in it and buying boats. 🚤
The green surroundings fascinate me, the leaves look almost like banana leaves! Don’t they?
Just look at the sights around the Victoria Harbour. The cloudy skies and anchor’s look like they are twinning. A refreshing walk along the harbour proved to give us a fun stop. A much needed break with view like nothing before.

What a beautiful city, neat, organized and really just beautiful. I'll surely enjoy a walk if I'm in there. Even those buildings is like an added decorations to the city. And those boats and yachts, omg there's a lot of them.
By the way the foods looks yummy. A delicious foods to have after some nice walk. Hehe
I completely agree, one of the clean countries. The planning between fun activities and tall glass buildings make it look more urban but not making it grey like other places. Thank you for reading! 🫶🏻✨
very plush and fancy looking dock area thanks for sharing it with us
