Snowy Monochrome Monday

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a couple of black and white edits from the recent snowstorm that we finally got the other day!

Snowy Monochrome Monday

Outdoor photography in the snow is absolutely a whole lot of fun! It can be quite cold and dramatic, as well as a little challenging in terms of equipment and durability. Thankfully I'm not in need of taking any particularly intense photos like long distance ones of incredible birds or animals, so I can achieve most of what I need to take pictures of with my decent phone camera. That's where all of these pictures came from!

We finally got some snow! It's been a relatively mild winter so far this year but I'm hoping we get a decent amount of cold weather and freezing temperatures. That will do a good job at making sure that the ponds, lakes and streams freeze up so that people can enjoy some of the other winter sports like ice fishing, ice skating and just overall travel around on the icy conditions. Time will tell, because we got several nights of really good freezing temperatures but we also have some mild days in the 50's that could throw a wrench into things and give it a good melt. Not good! Lol.

I love the look of really tall and full pine trees absolutely full to the gills of snow! It makes for such a unique and fun looking picture, almost like a cow being stuffed with bad food so that it will fatten up for slaughter hahaha.

The real gem of these though are the tight closeness of the trees and vines as they are dropping down their bows and branches with the weight of the new fallen snow! The pictures were pretty cool when they were full color ones, though it wasn't quite a bit different than these here because of the sheer amount of white everywhere, there are still some noticeable differences that I have taken note of and really appreciate!

I love how purely black the water is with the flip to black and white! It's really cool to see the black color of the water juxtaposed against the blinding white light of the snow everywhere. It's a fun and dramatic comparison!

In the summertime these trees and plants are pretty annoying with how close together they are. That's because the trees are being completely overrun and destroyed by stupid invasive vines and many people have sadly not taken the initiative to kill and remove these yet, so they are absolutely destroying the trees and ground in a lot of places. It's going to take a considerable amount of damage before anyone even pays attention to this stuff unfortunately but we will eventually get there.

I love how they look in the wintertime though, so I guess there's that lol. They do serve a little bit of a purpose: for me to take some nice scenic photographs like this! It's pretty cool to be able to experience these wonders, I know there are quite a number of people in the world who have never seen or experienced snow. I know I am absolutely incredibly lucky to live somewhere that is beautiful and experiences this wonder of nature!

What kind of invasive vine is it?

I think it's a bittersweet plant. Hard to say which one, I found a link last year with it and I don't know if this is exactly the right one but I'm pretty sure that's the species. It’s a fucking bitch! Grows like mad and destroys the big trees. Lost a bunch already in our area the damn shit.

Ah, I do not have any experience with removing/curbing any of the bittersweet vines that are invasive. Totally new one there for me so thanks. Most strangler vines take some really aggressive and proactive measures to manage them... which from the sounds of it are not being done there.

No it’s actually kind of surprising and annoying. I don’t know if it speaks to an overall laziness of people or what but these vines are highly destructive of the area. I’ve seen them all around and it’s sad, the fucking birds eat the fruit and shit the seeds out that’s how the damn thing spreads like a virus.

My son and I destroy the damn shit whenever we see it, with the focus being in the winter since the bugs and stuff are dead lol don't need ticks trying to get rid of this stuff!

Yeah, I found that the winter is really best for that kind of activity. Here kudzu is a major problem but people just shrug if you mention it. That stuff can put on three feet a day in new growth and will fully cover acre after acre... year after year... if left unchecked.

This is so so nice! Most times I stop to imagine what my country would look like if it was snowing here.

Good job dear friend😃

Snow is certainly something that makes the whole environment quite beautiful! It cleans it if that makes sense!

We got a good amount of snow! It was nice because last year we didn't get much so this makes up for it.

It was nice but I'm going to enjoy the winter for a bit longer. Spring is great but I want some frozen lakes haha

Nice winter photos my friend. It's like the whole country got this. Even Texas got snow, haha. We got 15 inches and the feel like temperatures reached -40 🥶
Your right about the ponds and lakes freezing. I'm looking at ice fishing next weekend( 27th & 28th) if the forecasted temperatures stay where there suppose to right above freezing. Fingers crossed 🤞

I think it's weird and annoying this whole "feels like" shit with the temperatures. Tell me what the actual temperature is and then we can factor in the wind. I don't know why there's this obsession with feels like lately lol it's dumb. Sorry I don't mean to go off on a tangent lol but I noticed they did it this summer and continue to do it this winter. Doesn't make sense, feels like more manipulation to make things seem worse.

We got the same amount of snow! My friend is in Alabama and he got hit with teen temperatures which is rare for them. Pretty wild that it got cold in the whole country!

I hope you get a bit of snow before the winter ends! It’s good for the kiddos to play in it. What we do is bring a bucket outside when it snows and fill it up and bring it inside that way my son gets to play in it with his Lego for an hour or two before it melts. Good fun and it just melts!
