Meandering Around the Zoo
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share the last batch of photos from the recent zoo trip we took a few weeks ago!

Meandering Around the Zoo
The zoo will still be one of the places that we like to go to even as our son gets older. I know that it tends to be cooler for kids who are of the younger age, but we still thoroughly enjoy it. I think what the cool thing about it for us is getting to walk around for so long and see so many different animals throughout the day!
This zoo is pretty well managed, and that's a good thing. It's not in the middle of the city, which can make it challenging to get to for some people and I understand that issue however it's far better for the animals. The zoos that are in the middle of, or very closely adjacent to a big city like New York, or LA and others, are very often poorly managed and cramped. This doesn't give the animals a good opportunity to enjoy and thrive the way that they should be considering they are in captivity.
I think it's cool that the zoos also have some of the last remaining animals in the world of a particular species. Yeah it's a little sad that they aren't in the wild in their natural habitat but at the same time, with how poorly managed some of these countries are (and that is likely intentional but a WHOLE different discussion...) it's no wonder that the animals are hunted or poached near extinction.
As many issues as the United States has, one of the really important things that we do have is really good wildlife management. There are certainly some species that are endangered in the country but I don't know of many species that are close to extinction because of a shitty management situation such as with Tigers in Asia and Rhinos in Africa. There are certainly other examples of this on both sides, but I'm just using it for reference. It's great to see these animals in the zoo, still alive!
Mamma has big sharp teeth! LOL
There are pretty good enclosures for the bigger animals here which is also nice. In the past, the enclosures for animals like tigers and lions was very small in relative terms, meaning they only got a few hundred square feet to roam around. In the most recent enclosures we are seeing here, they've got a couple acres of land to roam about and I think that's wonderful. It's important to give these wonderful animals a very similar habitat to where they are originally from so that they can enjoy something that is better than just walking back and forth in a tight square.
The monkeys and primates (I know there is likely someone who will correct me on whatever this animal is :D) are in pretty good shape where this zoo is. The enclosures aren't gigantic but they do represent a pretty big tree-like habitat for them which is nice. The enclosures for most of the monkeys are about 15-20 feet tall with lots of branches and things for them to climb up and onto, with food and other treats and toys laid about the whole place.
This is good for them because it gives them entertainment apart from the mundane of just hanging around in the enclosure, looking at these bigger cousins of theirs walking around pointing squares at them that sometimes make noise, and the very small versions of them yelling or trying to throw things at them which the big ones get mad and scold the small one for.
Every now and then though, we do get to see animals that we don't normally see at other zoos! We don't often get to see things like hyenas and that was cool, they had a few of them at this zoo. It was funny when we were there, this one looked like it was dead until one of the zookeepers knew which one it was and called out its name, which it popped up its head and came alive. I honestly thought it was a rock on the ground LOL.
We had a great time at the zoo and will likely take another trip here in the fall when the temperatures cool to see how they've made changes to it over the summertime. Since we went last year they've already done work on expanding some of the enclosures which is nice! Always great to see and support a place that is good for the animals.
What about you, do you like to go to zoos and other places where animals are at for you to enjoy? Let me know in the comments!

It'a amazing to see that some of these endangered species are really taken care of. I hope they will remain protected in the future.
The photos are amazing!
Yeah I hope they remain well taken care of as well, thanks for stopping by!
We used to love taking our boys to the zoos. I was in the military when they were younger and we moved some, so we got see a few different zoos over the years. The wife and I may just make a date of it and visit the zoo close to where we live now.
Yeah we've been to a bunch of different zoos over the last 3 years in our travels, it's been nice! We like some of the other zoos for different reasons but this one near home is one of our favorites.
Glad you have a date idea now! :D
It's really a nice thing to see when a zoo is well maintained and the animals live in an environment that's close to natural. I have not been to the zoo in my area for quite sometime. I need to as it's one of the best ones in the country(Omaha Henry Doorly). Plus it's got a a lot of new attractions I haven't seen. I just need a whole day because that about the time you need to see everything, lol.
Yeah I hear you man! This zoo is really big so you certainly need a day to see all of the animals, often 2 days to truly enjoy and appreciate it all. It sounds like a weekend at the zoo is of need for you :D
Haha ya your right probably two days especially if I get picture happy. The cool thing is they have a train their now, didn't the last time I visited. It's been 15 years but I have visited other zoos in other places.

So glad to see that this zoo is well managed and really give importance to those beautiful animals. It's just sad to know that some of those are about to go extinct. Soon, we may not see some of them as it's totally gone already. I really haven't visit any zoo yet, sad we don't have a zoo in our town. I really want to visit even once, or maybe twice just to see more of those animals that I haven't seen yey in my entire existence. There's actually a loy of them 🤧
Yeah there's quite a few animals in these places that are hard to find in the wild. The challenge is places like China, Mongolia and others that are where these are from don't do much of anything to protect them and they get poached. Countries should have stricter laws against those types of things but sadly it goes to corruption as well, where enough money will grease the wheel anyway.
At least in the zoos, they have breeding programs for many of the species that are rare and they have been pretty successful at it. The Brooklyn zoo in New York has a good breeding program for some of their animals with other zoos which is nice!
I've only seen Albion tigers in documentaries, I actually didn't know they exist in real life. What a shot too.
Haha ya I did get lucky with the shot of the tiger! I didn’t know if it was an albino tiger or Siberian tiger? I think Siberian tigers are white ones? At any rate, seeing white ones was awesome!
I think they're also the one's called albino tigers. Those species are probably hunted and going into extinction..
Yeah most likely.. some rich people have way too much time on their hands to try to kill animals like this!
Man, you don't know what a boring life is, do you :D ?
It's interesting because I taught my students Taxonomy last night and this came up. Lol I don't think there's anything to correct though, so enjoy this one, dude:) Monkeys are probably the closest I've been to wildlife. Oh wait, I've seen an elephant before so that probably changes that.
Hahaha the beauty of life and where we live, regardless of where it is in the world, is that we can find these types of entertainment things as long as you are willing to look! It may not be a zoo necessarily, but it could be other things!
The taxonomy field is pretty wild because there are SO many different damn classifications of animals. You will have a specialist in one specific species of freaking undersea snails that feed off whale carcasses it's wild lol
I’ve never seen any of the animals here. I wish to see a Tiger but I don’t think we have it here in Africa though
I’d love to see it someday
You had a nice time at the zoo though
I love the zoos, hopefully you get to see a good zoo one day!
