Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few photos from a recent farm trip!

Fruity Monochrome Monday

Summertime is fruit time!

The summer is a wonderful time of year because that's when we get to spend a lot of time at the farms and enjoying the various things as they come up! Fruit picking is for sure one of my favorite summertime past times because it's a great way to spend a few hours, you get to get some delicious fresh food at the end of the day, and you get to support the MOST important people in a local community: the farmers!

Having been going to farms like this for years, one of the things that's good is that there are always people that are going to be doing this thing in an area. It's a great time for families of young children to get out there, get them exposed to how things are in the local community and brings them in contact with food the way it's supposed to be: fresh from the plant!

Granted it's not always possible to do this, but I think this is a really big part of tourism. I think they call it agritourism, and it seems like it because I didn't get a bunch of red text saying it was wrong when I typed it LOL

Agritourism for farms during the picking season is great. The farms have people who come to them to harvest their wares, they have less overhead in terms of hiring people to pick the food, and they very often get people to buy other things at the farm as well. This is an overall win for the farming economy, because without farms there is no food. Industrial farming in giant warehouses or monocrop agriculture is a horrendous eyesore and it completely disconnects the farm from the community and the ecology.

Thankfully the little man has an eye for getting outside in the elements, rain or shine, to do some picking. We had a beautiful day weather wise and that made it really nice! I love getting to pick fresh fruit but especially cherries!

The funny thing was this was the first time this year we got out to pick strawberries. Normally we've gone a few times but for various reasons, we didn't make it out until the last week. I didn't entirely mind because strawberry picking is one of the harder ones for me. Crouching down in the blazing sun to pick them isn't the easiest on these semi-old knees lol.

Thankfully though it was the start to the cherry picking season! Cherries are for sure one of my favorites lately because we don't get to enjoy them much for the rest of the year as they are expensive as shit. I also think hunting through shaded trees for the best morsels is a really fun activity, as does the little man. He prefers the ladders though, which I don't necessarily blame him. Climbing the ladders is actually pretty dope!

As always with the fruit picking though, some of my favorites is seeing how they end up looking flipped into black and white! I love the look of the water droplets, since there was a little bit of rain before we got there, and how the sun just hits them in really fun ways.
