A few days ago I told you about the silver cup found in my grandfather's cellar. As already announced in that post, the cellar is full of boxes and collectibles that my grandfather bought over time and accumulated in the cellar, to avoid the controversy of my grandmother, who is not a lover of all these items.

Among the artifacts found, there are some silver cups like this one I'm telling you about today. It is a cup used in the past as a container for wine or water, frequent in the homes of nobles and aristocrats above all. They are often sets made up of bowls and trays, as well as glasses and cutlery. In fact, in the past glass was not contemplated as a useful and easy to produce material for glasses, but everything was strictly silver.

The cup is quite high, about 50 cm and can contain up to just over 1 liter of liquid. Time and poor storage in a damp place had somewhat darkened the opaque silver and with cleaning with an ad hoc product, the cup returned to its original splendour.

The piece should date back to the 19th century and probably come from one of the historic families who lived in the city: there weren't many nobles in that period, especially in a small city like mine. Walking around the antiques market I noticed a few similar bowls, perhaps they could be from the same noble family or even from the same set. I do not know the value effect of the silver cup, or rather the indicative value is known to me.

It's a nice piece of furniture, I certainly don't fill it with wine or water, but on the piece of furniture it has a nice visual effect. I really like its rounded base, made of silver wedges, very stable and solid.

Qualche giorno fa vi ho parlato della coppa d'argento ritrovata nella cantina di mio nonno. Come già annunciato in quel post, la cantina eea piena di scatoloni e reperti da collezione che mio nonno ha acquistato nel tempo e accumulato nella cantina, per evitare le polemiche di mia nonna, non amante di tutti questi articoli.

Tra i reperti ritrovati, ci sono alcune coppe d'argento come questa di cui vi parlo oggi. È una coppa utilizzata in passato come contenitore di vino o di acqua, frequenti nelle case soprattutto dei nobili e aristocratici. Spesso sono set composti da coppe e vassoi, come anche bicchieri e posate. In passato infatti il vetro non era contemplato come materiale utile e di facile produzione per i bicchieri, ma tutto era rigorosamente d'argento.

La coppa è abbastanza alta, circa 50 cm e può contenere sino a poco più di 1 litro di liquido. Il tempo e la cattiva conservazione in un luogo umido avevano un po' oscurato l'argento, opacizzato, e con la pulizia con un prodotto ad hoc, la coppa è ritornata nel suo splendore originario.

Il pezzo dovrebbe risalire all'Ottocento e probabilmente arrivare da una delle famiglie storiche che abitavano in città: non erano molti i nobili in quel periodo soprattutto in una piccola città come la mia. Camminando nel mercato dell'antiquariato ho notato alcune coppe simili, forse potrebbero appartenere alla stessa famiglia nobile o persino allo stesso set. Non conosco l'effetto valore della coppa d'argento, o meglio il valore indicativo mi è noto.

È un bel pezzo d'arredo, di certo non lo riempio di vino o acqua, ma sul mobile ha un bell'effetto visivo. Mi piace molto la sua base tondeggiante, fatta di spicchi d'argento, ben stabile e solida.
