well, as I am sure you know, there is fascinating research being done about fungi and it has been determined that fungi are more similar to us than we'd ever imagined. They are the one plant that is not a plant at all. It's closer to human DNA than plant! how crazy is that! How sentient they are or what they can comprehend is still unknown but it's all kind of cool and creepy at the same time!
